If I use the fanart, those screens are VERY laggy. Usually takes about 10 or more seconds for my PC to become responsive after going into a show that has fanart. Then it is still a little laggy at that point. Anyone else? Anyone kow what might fix this?

Thanks,

For me there's a little lag but nowhere near 10 seconds. Probably less than 1 second.

How fast of a computer?

Dual core Pentium, 2GB memory, fast HD's...not the best but I figured it would be sufficient for HTPC.

Fanart comes up in the blink of an eye. Maybe 1 second at the most. And this is on extenders HD100 and HD200. And this is on both Fanart for the Default and SageMC. Fanart is in a shared central folder on the SageTV WHS server. GB network. Something is wrong with your setup or network. It shouldn't take 10 seconds. What about photos? Do you have any performance issues with those? Those are usually even bigger than Fanart.

I don't use Sage for anything but the tv aspect so I couldn't comment on photos. Network is not the issue as these are local files.

So your client and server are the same machine? And you are running the minimum requirememnts of Sage 6.4.8, SageMC 6.3.6a and java 1.6?

Yes client/server same machine. Running the latest (at least as of a week ago) of all three.

Then you got me on that one. All my Fanart is local the the WHS server. So my PC pull it from the network and they open instantly. HD200 is instant and the HD100 is usually instant but no more than 1 second. These are all hi-res 1920 x 1080 jpegs. Anywhere from 300-600K in size.

You could try adding
Code:
ui/enable_hardware_scaling_cache=true
to your client properties file. It proberly wont do much but it maybe worth a shot.

Note that it's a setting you must enable (it is not on by default).

Thanks,
If your like me and have all your movies on a NAS box then be sure and put all the fanart background images in the central location directory on your SageTV server. I was having a little lag while on my servers UI but major lag on my HD100 with all those big images on the NAS. The movie posters unfortunately have to stay with the directory as your video files, but they're much smaller.

What is Context Sensitive? Is that what causes Fanart to come up when scrolling through the RecordedTV list in SageMC? It can make it hard to read the list of shows.

A lot of what I record are Kids Shows or sports. Any idea where to get Fanart for Kids Shows (i.e Dora the Exporer, Go Diego, etc.) and sports which is generally entitled "NBA Basketball", "NHL Hockey", "PGA Tour Golf"?

I download the high-res backgrounds/wallpapers (e.g. Dora) for the shows.

I apologize if this has been posted above but - Is there any way to have fanart use the folder name rather than the filename for fanart of video files that are in MyVideos?

This is for TV Series - if you have a folder names Sopranos and then each file is the episode name you don't want to have dozens of jpg for each episode.

If your show "The Sopranos" is imported media and is also contained within one folder then you can just use "background.jpg" placed within the same folder. If you've recorded the show from the TV then you can use a centralized folder system and have one background image named "The Sopranos.jpg" placed in that same folder.

shading the episode info screen

When i look at the episode listing with fanart enabled it's hard to read the episode description in sagemc. Is there a way to shade the text somehow (see screenshot).

Try Global Options > Display > Menu Shading Alpha.

I tried that but as you can see from the screenshot the shaded area does not go to the bottom where the text is.

I just tried the new Fanart options. I have read all of the posts in this thread and other threads.

I am running SageMC 6.3.9. I have enabled FanArt as described in the post on GeekTonic. I also installed the addins: Phoenix and BMT. I have downloaded some fanart in a central location c:\video\fanart". I have three subdirectories, TV, Movies, and Music.

Using these instructions, can display fanart for my videos, but not for my TV shows. For instance, I have recorded "The Office". I have fanart with the filename "The Office.jpg" in the "c:\video\fanart\TV" subdirectory. It doesn't show up on TV shows.

Finally, I went and rightclicked, did a search on Metadata/Fanart. It found Fanart and created a subdirectory in "c:\video\fanart\tv\The Office" and then put in a "Backgrounds" subdirectory under that, as well as several files named "73244-X.jpg" where X is a number, which I guess is a background number. I can see those backgrounds, but not my original "The Office.jpg" file.

So, somehow it is partially working. Any thoughts?
