People have to learn that just because they used to do something on another OS doesn't mean they can or even should do the same things on WHS. WHS isn't a desktop. Trying to use WHS like a desktop is like trying to use a dump truck as a race car. I, personally, would use a desktop for ripping and then move the media to the server. That said, have you tried adding a D.E.P. exception? |

Right click "My Computer" on your desktop and select "Properties" - click the "Advanced" tab - Click "Settings" for the "Performance" section - click the Data Execution Protection tab and "add" an exception for dvdshrink. |

I'll help you break your WHS, if you want.
Remember, the more you install on your WHS the more work it'll be if you have to do a server reinstall later, if it breaks. |

I am comfortable enough with what I am doing. Installing my blu ray in the desktop does not allow me to stream to the extender without copying the blu rays. Running dvd shrink I don't see hurting things, but I appreciate your concern.

It very well might not break anything but you did have to set an exception to make it work. I'm just putting up the warning sign, it's your box. I have unsupported apps on my WHS too, just not many.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade it's just that while many things (like dvdshrink I hope) might run fine, doing *some* things on WHS that work on another OS will definately break it. Some things worse than others of course.
Glad I could help, WHS and Sage are two of my favorites... |

You can play BR discs from the drive in the WHS from the extender w/o ripping? AnyDVD?

Yes of course. Just make sure anydvd is running and install the toshiba 2.5udf file that is floating around works like a champ.
Also add the drive to your import directories for videos. |

Nice! Definitely makes extenders much more attractive.

Your telling me the wife loves not having to wait for me to rip our new movies she can just watch it when she buys it.

It should be noted that the one downfall is that you have to rescan your import directory directories each time you insert a disk, so if you have a not of files, it could take a while.
However, that's a minor issue IMO. |

PETER,
actually if you have sage setup to rescan import directories automatically you shouldn't have to (or at least I haven't had too) |

Use MyMovies for WHS. Automated ripping is very nice.

Too bad they require "points" for some things. I'd be more likely to install DVDShrink on WHS (which I won't do either ), I'll never use it.

Yes, they require points to do rips. But, you can complete meta data for free points or contribute. It's well worth the $50 if you decide to contribute for the points. How much did you spend on WHS, hardware, extenders, Sage? It's simply the best way I've found to automatically rip disks. Period.
