What you should do instead is this:

Router->HD200 #1
Router->Switch
Switch->PC NIC #1
Switch->HD200 #2

And then it should all work fine. I'm guessing you just tried putting the switch between the PC NIC#2 and the HD200 #2 which wouldn't have any effect basically.

I do have the second scenario. I originally thought that maybe I needed to have both HD200s on the switch and that's a little difficult for me to do right now. That's where I was a little confused.

I had been using port forwarding for all ports to my server b/c that server also has Real VNC but I tried modifying my forwarding to only include the two ports needed. Next step is to try deleting SageTV and doing a fresh install (I had tried running the install but I guess that doesn't actually delete everything). I know about saving the wiz.bin file. I don't know enough about customizing to have many things in my sage.properties file that I need. Tough part is finding time to do it. I'm even thinking about a completely fresh reinstall of my entire computer but ugh, that's nearly an entire weekend's task. I'll report back when I get a chance to try something else.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

3. Java heap mentioned above?

4. Are you using the server as a client?

The fact that its a random event tells me the problem is the server/network. The HD200 is rock solid and to suggest that it is buggy is simply false.

1. The server is always on. The drives do sometimes go to sleep but I highly doubt that's the issue b/c sometimes this happens from one HD200 while the other is on and running.

2. Sometimes I do not hit stop before turning the HD200 off. Since it's a random event, I can't guarantee that it's happened even after I've hit stop but I think it has.

3. How do you check the Java heap size and what should I do about it? I have 4 GB memory so if I can fix this problem by increasing the allocation to Java, that would be great.

4. I do not use my server as a client. My server is essentially my file server for storage of all my media and my SageTV server. It doesn't do a whole lot more. My wife and I both use laptops to check email, surf web, etc.

I've thought about replacing the router but it's a fairly new (1 year I think) Linksys G router. I was planning to replace with an N when that's finalized this year but if a new router would fix this problem, I'd gladly do that today. But when this error occurs, stopping and starting the service on my server fixes the problem. I don't have to touch the router so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the router. I like the HD200 and would keep it even with this occassional connecting issue but would love to figure out how to fix it whether through hardware or software.

Check the properties on your network cards in the server and make sure you don't enable the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.". If it is checked, uncheck it.

I haven't read this entire post, but wanted to add that i was having an issue with my hd200 not connecting sometimes, and the network card just dropping out as if it didn't exist. I submitted a bug to sagetv, and they said:

"We're aware of this problem and are working on it now; you should expect
another firmware update in the near future.

Thanks,

Speaking of new firmware - it was released today. One of the changes is how the HD-200 connects when there is a DHCP change or something like that. Perhaps that may help solver the problem.

Since the new 0602 released my HD200 has ocassionally been unable to find the server. A full unplug and plugin restores its functionality. Anybody else see this?

I was having those issues every now and then. After the update that came up recently, I noticed the extender connecting to the server very quick! Have not have a drop in their connection (server and extender) yet! Let's see how it behaves the rest of the week.

This is a weird problem. At first I tried restarting SageTV on server and the HD200 could still not connect. Then I rebooted the server and restarted SageTV and the HD200 Would not connect.

Using the remote I power cycled the HD200 and it still could not find the server. So then I thought lets try searching for updates. No joy.

I had to unplug the HD200 and then it just popped up and recconnected.

I have 2 HD200s and this has been happening independently on each unit where they cannot access the internet.

So when the HD200 can't see the network does it try a DHCP release/renew?

Same here with my 3 extenders. Started after the previous firmware update (20090602). My extenders are all static addresses. It seemed that once they were off for awhile, when you turned them on, they had no network connectivity until you pulled and restored power to them.

I have not had it happen again since upgrading to 20090609.

Spoke too soon. Just happened to me again last night. I believe there is yet another firmware update. Will see if that fixes it this time.

This just started happening to me. Night before last HD200 #1 would not connect. I could boot it to standalone mode OK and it saw the server but after the splash screen all I got was a black screen. It was bedtime so I didn't troubleshoot any further. Next morning HD200 #2 had the same issue (and #1 still had it). When I got home from work I tried power cycling with the remote as well as with the power cord on both HD200's. This whole time my 1 PC client worked perfectly and Sage did keep recording all my scheduled shows.

I took the opportunity to upgrade the server, the PC client and the HD200's to the latest beta (6.5.17) and rebooted. Both HD200's immediately started working.

This morning when I woke up the HD200's could not connect again and I restarted the Sage service to fix it.

I just got home and found this thread that describes the problem exactly so I'm posting this.

I am also having this same issue. I just submitted a Bug Report to Sage.

On mine the only way to get it to connect again is to remove power from it for a minute or so. Once power is restored it comes up & finds the server with no problem.

I too am having this problem, exactly as described above. It has to do w/ the extender because rebooting the PC doesn't help. I have to pull the plug on the HD-200. Running the latest beta-firmware. Happened w/ the latest stable firmware as well.

I can also confirm this problem. Occasionally, the extender is unable to connect to the server or internet. Only yanking the power cable works. Is seems to start with the last two beta firmware releases.

I can confirm this problem as well. It's been going on for a while, so it is not related to the latest firmware for me.

It does not appear to be a problem with the server, as PC Clients have no issue connecting. Only the two Extenders refuse to connect. I typically have to reboot the server to get them to connect, but occasionally resetting the power on the extenders will do the trick.

Both extenders are on a switched network. The server is the WHS version on a PC that does not go into any type of sleep or power-save mode (since it also runs my home automation software.)

It is my #1 problem with SageTV as far as the WAF and family acceptance. It's also #2 - #10.

I'm setting up a daily auto-reboot of my server to try to resolve the issue until a fix is found.

Help!

Add me to the camp. I came on here looking for some answers after a few weeks of frustration. It's not server related as far as I can tell. The usual fix is to unplug the power on the HD 200. After plugging back in and restarting it proceeds to connect. I haven't updated the firmware in a while. I'll give that a try and report back, but from what I'm reading it hasn't helped anyone else.

I've also been having this problem. I've just been dealing with it for the last few months- I didn't realize other people were having this problem too. Once every week or so I have one of two problems. Sometimes my HD200 won't wake up from standby at all until I unplug it and plug it back in. Sometimes it wakes up but won't find my Sage server until I do the same. My HD100 doesn't have this problem- only the HD200.

I've been waiting to update the firmware until Sage updated the server. Now that the new release is out I'll try that and hopefully that will fix it.

Any fixes to this? I just started running SageTV and an HD Extender a couple of weeks ago and ran into the problem for the first time. Restarting the sage service and then powering off the extender with the remote fixed the problem for me. Not sure what to watch for next time this happens.
