Thanks. Will use the support form this time.
I thought (email removed by admin for spam reasons) would be just as good. I guess not Richard

Sigh. Add me to the list. I couldn't figure out what the chirp-chirp sound was until I saw the blinking light, and found this page. I just sent in a support request. I haven't checked my old email to see when it was purchased, but I imagine they can figure it out from the serial #.

Thought Id reply before this thread get closed or deleted...
Id advise anyone outside america to not bother with sage support. Just repair it yourself (it is quite easy soldering) or get it repaired by someone who knows how to solder. I raised I support call when mine failed. That was probably two months ago now. Never had any reply from sage support. But I never get any replies from sage support so that was no real surprise. If I didnt already have SageTV, knowing what I now know, Id have gone the MCE route I think. Yes it has limitations, but I can go to a local shop and get an "extender" off the shelf rather than having to import one. It would also have a usable waranty. Sorry, thread hijack over!

I suggest that anyone who does not get a reply from support after 72 hours try again, check their spam folders, add SageTV to their spam filter's white list, and/or ask on the forum rather than assuming that support is ignoring them. - Andy

Just fixed mine as well. The local Radio Shack had the caps in stock. Only took a few minutes, and that's with my not-so-steady hands and lousy soldering skills. I was out of warranty by a month and was glad to only have to spend a few bucks.

Another Power Supply bites the dust
Darn, another DH100 power supply failure. I was hoping mine was exempt since it was behind a UPS power filter but it wasn't the case. Per the ID inside the unit it was manufactured 1/22/2008.
When it failed the power light flashed and a faint high-pitch beep could be heard at the unit. The smell at the HD100's vents let me know the caps inside were history. Upon inside inspection 2 of the 3 power supply caps had their tops bulging. The third cap looked ok but I knew better than to leave it for later. I think the original 10v caps were being maxed out. The replacement caps at 35v may cost a bit more but they made the unit power up and work like a champ again. I purchased the caps for $1.59 each at Radio Shack (part # 272-1032). Yeah, I know I could have gotten them cheaper on-line but I'm the impatient type and didn't want to wait a week for delivery. Well, I still have one more HD100 that hasn't failed yet that I purchased at the same time. Its not used as much, so it will probably will take a little longer to fail. Mine also appears to have died today. It was purchased when they first came out in Dec of 2007. The first sign of trouble was when it did not respond to the remote without being very close to the unit. Replacing the batteries did not make any difference. Then I made the mistake of opening the unit to check it. Two of caps do appear to have expanded a bit, I thought I could still get by for a couple of days. But now only get the flashing LED when I try to boot it. I plan to replace the caps after my HD theater arrives. My Hd100 was also behind a UPS.

For those that had Sage Fix the unit under warranty or paid...
I am interested to know what capacitors they used. Are they the same 1000uf 10v or did they beef them up some?

Wow I'm on a roll, My 2nd of four died today. It was also purchased when they first came out 2007. I guess with 2 down and two more to go (first one in a shipping box ready to go back to sagetv for repairs) it's now worth buying a soldering iron and hoping my soldering skills are still intact from 25 years ago.
btw: My middle name is murphy's law. So this could end badly

I just fixed one of my two HD100s. Its remote had been responding poorly for several weeks. There was no high-pitched noise until the red light started flashing. I don't know how old it was because I got it on ebay.
The remote still works fine on my other unit so I'm not opening it up yet, but I've got some caps ready just in case. The repair took about 20 minutes and was really easy, so don't hesitate. Six caps bought on ebay cost me £2.10 including delivery. |

Well since I had two dead ones an a 3rd that's now having poor respond to the remote all of a sudden I bite the bullet and did the repairs myself. Took less then a hour to fix both start to finish. It took more time going to 3 radio shacks to find 6 caps
Thanks guys

Woke up this morning to flashing power light, found this thread. I didn't have any problems prior to today. Purchased my HD100 in May 2008. I've never soldered anything so looks like I'll have to let Sage do the repair.
[Edit] Brought mine into work and asked the IT guy to fix it - took him less than 5 min. Anyone new to soldering, Make magazine (Makezine.com) just did a nice online article "Teach your family to solder" with links to how-to videos Last edited by MrE; 08-18-2009 at 10:08 PM. |

Honestly an external power supply, a couple of wire nuts (or better crimp connectors) and 3 minutes is all the time you need to fix this. (If you don't care about being able to disconnect the DC adapter)

Mine died this week. Remote was deteriorating everyday worse and worse.
Bought soldering iron, wick, 4 capacitors (1 spare) all about $30 Canadian dollars. Took me 1.5 hours to fix. Most of that time was spent trying to remove the old ones! What was the trick to doing that? If anyone ever looks at the bottom of that board they will think WTF@##? I hope it last me another year so I can replace it with an "HD300".

Fixed mine over the weekend too, I knew it was starting to go when the remote needed to be close to get it to function. Also had video issues, had to switch between inputs on my TV to get it to display on occasion. Rock solid now! If you have a HD100, I'd suggest you have the components 'on hand' before it fails.... Murphy's Law guarantees it will fail during the Superbowl. So, what's the lastest rumor about the HD300? |

Ya mine died Tuesday and cost about $22.00 for parts and soldering iron. It took me about 45 minutes to disassemble, remove the bad capacitors and solder the new capacitors on the board. I want thank everyone who figured out what was wrong with the extenders and showed us how to fix them.
