Building a new Sage box

Well, after 6 years, my Sage system gave its all and finally gave up the ghost. I am now going to put together a new system. Since it has been so long, it'll be interesting to see how everything has advanced since my Pentium 4 2.4ghz and Sage 5.

My server is a $60 ASUS microATX mobo, AMD 3800 CPU. RAID1 onboard for two 500GB disks, C: boot and V: partitions. It's a bit of an overkill, because I don't do transcoding or HD.

Evaluating
Turnkey Dell system - My last PC was actually a Dell. I started a new job back on 2007 as a consultant (soft. del) and needed a machine fast.
Motherboards
Drobo - I spoke to one of the pre-sales guys and an engineer. They seem confident that a Firewire800 is up to the task.

This machine will also be used to host VMWare virtual machines. I'm maxing out my 3gig development desktop.
