Great plugin!

The commercials are getting rediculously long and more are being added daily.

How are you guys setting things up to be able to fast forward through them?

The shows you watch on PlayON are being buffered in real time, just like if you were to start watching LiveTV. So if you want to skip the commercials, you'll need to start the show, pause it, and wait until you've got enough buffer to skip the commercials when they show up.

About 66% of the time when I look under the UPnP browser, Playon doesn't show up. Then I go back and then just click on UPnP again. It eventually shows up and everything works great. Anyone else having this issue? I love this plugin and can absolutely live with this glitch but that's the kind of thing that gives my wife ammunition.

Thanks for the plugin evilpenguin!

EP, I've got cache files for all of UPNP servers but I am not always able to select from all of them. Am I wrong in thinking that they should always show up?

I'm not able to connect to the PlayOn server running on a machine other than the SageTV server when it doesn't show up in the list. Any clue on what I can do?

This begs to ask. When I start a show with PlayOn through your plug-in, the SageTV status green bar shows what appears to be almost the entire movie "loaded" into Sage.

In other words, the green time line on the bottom shows it fulling up very quickly. Is the clip being sent in no faster time than actual viewing time?

List view

Hey EP

Love the plugin and it's working flawlessly for me with Playon.

Quick question - how can I change the listing in the plugin to list view (i.e. one item per row) instead of the current tile view? I get tired of constantly pressing "info" to get the full name/title of a show in the plugin.

Also, does this plugin fully support unicode/foreign characters? The russian streams I'm running through this come out all garbled (as in all the show titles, descriptions, etc)...

Thanks & great work!

Ugh, why did Netflix or Playon change the directory structure so that under category they now list pages of videos and not the alphabetical A-C, etc? At least before you knew where to look, now I don't know how to find anything without guessing.

Does the playon server have to be installed on the same machine as sage? Or can it be another machine on my LAN?

I tried and it doesnt seem to find it...

It can be installed on another machine on the LAN. I have playon installed on a different computer than my Sage computer. Everything works fine.

Not working - Error

Hey EP,

I'm having problems with the plugin. I can navigate through and see all the shows and episodes but when I try to play anything, I get an error stating:

"There was an error downloading C:\WINDOWS\Temp\OnlineVideo7998.flv: Error: Error.java.net.ocketTimeoutException: Read timed out"

This happens with every show I try to play. Do you know what would cause this?

Thanks,
Peter

Hmmmmm, I wonder why sage isn't seeing my other computer. Did you have to tweak any settings or did it just pop up?

I have the exact same problem. The plugin can see the machine at times but at other times (most times) it doesn't see it at all.

Interestingly enough, xbmc and boxee on my appletv see the server. Xbmc plays videos from hulu. So it's not a playon problem...

I've got the same symptoms. I can see the PlayOn server from my Xbox360 and from the HD200 in stand-alone mode. Are you using a Dlink router by chance?

I didn't tweak any settings. It just automatically worked. I don't know enough about the inner-workings of the plug-in to offer any advice.

Are there any network experts out there who might be able to shed some light on my and my buddy dinki's problem (sage not seeing playon on another computer on the same LAN)?

In my case, the two computers are in the same ip address range, they have the same subnet mask, they both belong to the same workgroup. Both computers can access shared folders and they can ping each other.

Any reason why sage can't see the playon server?

Just FYI, since I posted the above the other day my motherboard crashed and I did a complete new install of Windows and Sage. I did this plugin again and got the same error. But, this time I copied what the error was. This is a new machine even so far as going from an Intel machine to AMD (that's what I had laying around. LOL).

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

If you are trying to play Hulu content, go to your machine where PlayOn is installed, open Internet Explorer, and try to play Hulu content direct from hulu.com. If the browser prompts you to install any plugins to play the content, install them. Same goes for other web sites that PlayOn provides content for...go to those sites individually and make sure IE has all the necessary plugins to stream content from those sites. If Internet Explorer on your PlayOn machine doesn't have the necessary plugins and can't stream content from the sites PlayOn supports, then they won't stream through PlayOn either.

The other possiblity would be that your C: drive is full. I had that happen once where the .flv files weren't being cleaned up from the Windows Temp directory and eventually they filled my Windows Home Server C: drive, causing an error because new files couldn't expand as data was streamed to it.
