ahh.... hopes dashed. I'm certian it's a considerable amount of work to implement and I'm sure all you guys are busy updating stvi's or working on a new STV.

Was DM for SageMC an added stvi or built in?

I would like to chime in and say I miss dynamic menus as well. The biggest thing that I miss is the disk status bar. Also, adding in my menu element for PlayOn would be great as well. It takes a long time to get there.

So I guess the million-dollar question is, are any of you awesome devs working on it? Every morning I pop on here hoping to see that someone did it.

I know, it's standard practice to keep it a secret until it's done, but c'mon, throw us a bone here...

(before someone suggests, I have no clue about programming, or, yes, I would do it myself )

+10 for the disk status bar and also a quickie shortcut to PlayOn .. my batteries are gonna die in no time flat if I have to keep clicking through like that ..

Also, all I want for Christmas is the ability to disable [or password protect?] the "Exit SageTV" option. Even if it means puttering with the XML. Yes I know I have a separate thread about it, but .. in case nobody saw that one .. Side-bump?

I think we're all hoping Sage will put dynamic menus in the core (I know I am)

If that's the case, I think there would exist some type of 'hint' in the default stv. Anyone run across something in studio? I'm at work now but can take a peek when I get home.

We all (okay most of us) want Dynamic Menus. It's must-add functionality in my opinion. Many of us have been clamoring for it for a while now. It's not trivial to bring it over to V7 so understandable that it's not here yet. But I don't want anyone to forget the importance

I am a little surprised that it would be difficult to incorporate this feature in the programming, and am even more surprised that with the legion of SageMC users (as evidenced by their own sub-forum) who appreciate the ability to customize their interface, that this was not considered required.

It is quite likely that if everyone posted their v6 setups, I would be surprised to see how many are still "stock".

I'll just be quiet, and will wait in line.

Trust me. Unless you've tried, you wouldn't realize how difficult it is.

Required? It was a 3rd party add-on from the get go. And I would put it as "highly desired" and something I sincerely hope they will include before SageTV 7 escapes beta, but I wouldn't say required.

PS: I noticed someone from the Phoenix team (sort of an evolution from the old SageMC) has included Dynamic Menus as a feature of their yet-to-be-released project. So it is possible and according to them very complicated.

The sad truth is, that I didn't realize how much DM means to me. So much so, that I will probably going back to SageMC until someone does create an add-on OR until Ortus is released.

The new UI LOOKS great, but as for functionally there are just too many layers/clicks to get to the stuff I use everyday.

But I am mostly a patient guy. I know that it will all come together eventually

What I meant by "required" was simply that as a developer (which I am), if I saw the demand for my product increase due to a third-party add-on it would certainly be something I would code in at the outset.

I also find it ironic that a 3rd-party developer has been able to do it, and actually "has" to do it. To me, the ability to simplify and (to me) logically organize my menus has been one of the great strengths of this HTPC software (plug-ins notwithstanding ). I look forward to additional plug-ins which allow me to re-personalize my system, however, I feel bad for the unpaid volunteer plugin developers who are now pressured to fufill the void.

I'm hoping they (3rd party) won't have to. Just because it's not in this beta version, doesn't mean it won't be in a later version...

Even if they just added the disk bar and the PlayOn in a static menu, I would be happy.

And believe me, if a 3rd party developer DOES do this it will be because they want it, not because they feel pressure from the community to produce it!

Sage provides this ability already with studio. You can add, delete, rearrange menu items all day long (and it isn't even that hard to do).... but you have to do it from studio... So what everyone is really asking for is the ability to modify the menu from an external file without opening up studio...

the diskbar should be there once Andy updates the unsupported extras for v7. Playon... i doubt that will ever make it into a default shipping static menu...

What we might get in the default that will eliminate some of the pain with Playon is a default action for 'Online' that opens up the 'More Online Videos' screen - which would reduce the number of clicks required by a few. It's up to the 3rd party dev of the Playon Plugin (which is actually a Universal PnP browser) to add a menu item somewhere higher if he wants to.
