That would be great. My RS is a very rural outfit and the knowledge stops after satellite tv.

Cats seem to rule here. I sure don't get it

Best case scenario - You have the smartest cat in the world and he still $!@%'s in your house.

Hector,

We actually used the adapter that was on the IR detector itself. We cut it off and wired 2 forty foot extension cables in between to detector and the adapter. So I am using the original adapter.

Ah-ha, so that explains it... "some assembly required".

I really don't want to whack up my ir sensor, the extension cable is preferable to me personally but I have been reluctant to get into that without knowing the length would work.

40 ft is awesome, thanks for sharing Karen.

It should. They also have 6' and 25' cables. For anyone looking for these cables, you can also do a google search for: 2.5mm stereo extension cable. You'll get quite a few links; the one from lamejames is listed first. Thanks... now I know what to say when people ask that question.

Excellent, thanks for sharing.

The other big part was that Karen proved you could use it over long distances. We know at least 40ft which is good information.

Extending the Hauppauge IR Cable

I ran into this old thread while looking for something else and thought I'd comment. I easily solved this problem at Radio Shack. While my local Radio Shack did not have a 2.5mm headphone extension cable (which is what I asked for), after a little checking we found that they did have some 1/8" to 3/32" stereo adapters (yes, they call them 3/32", not 2.5mm). By using a 1/8" stereo headphone extension cable (easy to find) and two of the adapters (one 1/8" jack to 3/32" plug and one 3/32" jack to 1/8" plug), I was able to make a 3/32" extension cable. Although the HP IR cable and jack MAY be exactly 2.5mm and not 3/32" (not sure), the 3/32" stuff appeared to fit OK. 3/32" is only about 0.005" smaller than 2.5mm, so the IR plug was a little tight in the 3/32" adapter and the 3/32" plug was a little loose in the PVR-250 IR jack. Or maybe it's just my imagination and the HP IR connections are really 3/32" anyway....
