try higher bit levels and make sure to run the newest drivers for the card
also hauppauge normally has new drivers very often until recenty these often improve the quality
you can also tweak the quality yourself
frey has list how to setup the recording qualities and all the tweaks and what they do
if you make a nice one that you like and post it I will try it

here's a link to some I made
http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...0&pagenumber=2
just so you know mine are just adding some variable bit rates and another recording quality in between best and max

here the frey setup for recoring qualities
http://www.freytechnologies.com/2_papers/HPquality.txt
thanks i'll look into that

and i think its worth mentioning that i get the same effects in hauppauge's own program if that makes any difference

Wow, that is bad. Cable connection problem? Like maybe a bad connector/splitter somewhere in the line? Or a bad pvr250 card?

Yeah, that looks like a bad source problem, do non-local channels look any better? I know around here locals are noticeably worse than the "cable" channels.

Oh yeah, a picture says a thousand words . That looks like bad reception to me. See you have can get you hands on a cable amp and definitely check your cabling. Garbage in garbage out.

problem is movement is damn near as bad on SATELLITE!

with the cable connected to tivo or directly to the tv, its fine (a little fuzzy on that channel but damn watchable)...but movement is all kinds of blurred on the pvr250

Check into the 250 encoding parameters again. What I have seen is on a bad signal channel (fuzzy) it does the smearing you are seeing as it tried to denoise it. Maybe disabling that will do it.

k, will check into that...

i dont have a screencap handy to illustrate this, but what about the fact it looks like its just not showing all the colors it should...for instance, when i was just switchin channels last night i turned on the sopranos, and there was a light showing on a wall, and the gradient of the light was just stupid and banded...like if u view a high-color picture in like 256 or 16-bit instead of 32-bit

berfsicle see if this will help try disable FltDnrTempFltLevel in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Globespan\Parameters\ivac15\Driver\ by change it from 8 to 0 reboot.

Question Whats wrong with this video????

Hi,

I checked out the video and it had NO video problems what so ever. This was the best clearity I have seen and was nothing like the picture you posted. You are using VBR with a very high standard bitrate. I would look at either your video output or decoder, your encoder is fine. Of course I have no sound, dont' know why that is.

Caution to those without broadband. The video is 25 megs, VBR ranging form 3.5mb/s to 9+mb/s.

Regards,

Mark

hm...i was just about to post that a couple friends said there was no problems....the more i look at it, perhaps it was too dark to show the effects im seeing, all i know is jag for instance had blurry faces and stuff...to quote my mom... "if i didnt already know who was sitting there talking to him, i wouldnt know"

i've tried several settings for my decoder, and i've used s-video to tv, dvi->component to hdtv, and vga to monitor and live tv is awful

i cant figure it out

What wrong with that why ask it look just ever bit as my USA channel here berfsicle by the way I take it you forgot hook audio cable becuase I getting no sound from the clip.
Also I see you using MAX bitrate 12MB/sec which not good for DVD just so you know.

Hi,

After looking closer, I noticed the same smearing as before. Lets try a brighter sequence. I would first try the registry edit that SHS recommended and turn off the noise filter.

Regards,

Mark
