Import TV as Recordings

BMT 4.9.13.

The batch update function for importing TV content as recordings is not working. I can go into each individual file and check the box and save them but doing them in batch doesn’t work.

I added a bug for that. Thx. I'm not sure if this is something in 4.9.13 specific... I didn't change anything in that area, but it may be a side effect of other changes.

A great option in BMT would be to specify directories as TV Imports.

The cool thing about this would be that since mfg are coming out with cablecard tuners (specifically SiliconDust), you can rapidly support them in Sage. These tuners require Win7 DRM, so unless Sage can get approval, Windows will have to record shows. If BMT used the specified TV directories as TV imports automatically, everything could be located within Sage anyway.

Not quite sure what that will gain you... ie, a TV specific import folder. When bmt imports a file, it assumes nothing about the file, and then tries many different options to try and figure out how scan it.

Knowing that it's a tv file doesn't help bmt much, since if it can't parse out a series and episode info, then it won't do anything with the file anyways.

Maybe I'm missing something else with your request?

Do you think this function will be repaired in the next release of BMT?

It may... but I can't really say when the next bmt will be... I'm really, really, stretched thin at the moment, and I'm not seeing that let up any time soon

I was thinking you wouldn't even have to search for metadata. By specifying "MC Directory" would simply parse the MC metadata and import everything into Sage using the same mechanism you already have in place.

New files would appear in the MC directory and BMT would just grab them, bypass the search, use a metadata reference table to translate variable names, and import.

You would only have to do this for Win 7 MC since these new tuners are all tied to it.

So while not within BMTs primary function, this would be a great adjunct feature using in place mechanisms and then you'd have all the great metadata editing capabilities BMT provides afterward.

It's not a bad idea... but you'll need to find a Windows person that uses SageTV and W7MC to build this. Given that I don't use windows, I would not personally invest my time in doing this, but it's something that does fit within the scope of bmt. It would seem to me that since you are importing stuff in to sagetv using existing metadata from MC, then this would be done by createing a MC Metadata Provider that knows how to resolve filenames into metadata, much like how the DVDProfiler provider works now.

What I am looking for is a switch that imports any file identified as a TV show as a recording if it is getting metadata as a result of being told to by Sage.

So if my external TV folder gets scanned by SageTV and sage tells BMT to retrieve metadata, mark it as a recording. If I add a movie to my external movies folders and SageTV imports it, BMT should just import it as a video.

Does it do this now?

BMT has a setting, "Import TV as Recordings". What this means is that if BMT imports a TV file (ie, it can parse out S##E##) then once the metadata is fetched, then BMT will mark it as a recording. If BMT determines that the file is a Movie, then it will not import it as a recording, but rather just import it as a regular video file.

All that being said, I don't use this option myself, and a couple of people are reporting that it may be broken. I'll be doing some testing this weekend to ensure that the Import as Recording does work.

BMT has a wide range of options, but typically that ones that you'll be concerned with initially can be found under Configure -> Phoenix -> Metadata/Fanart Options. In there you'll see options for Import TV as Recordings, etc.

Thanks. The user guide was unclear about this.
