Ah, I was wondering if you snuck in some analytics in the Open Source Core or something.

Hmm... That would be cool - would be nice to know what versions of Sage are running, what STV's they are using, etc..

I would like to do 'some' analytics in there, but it would likely only really be how many active servers are out there (this would be based on SageTVPluginsV9.md5 download statistics). But it would in no way provide usage information. That's a privacy road I don't feel the desire to deal with.

If you look at the "statistics" tab on SageTV downloads, you can get a sense for the # of downloads...

https://bintray.com/opensagetv/sagetv/SageTV#statistics

Basically the lastest version was downloaded 2200 times... the bulk from US (~2100) then Canada (~42), then the UK, etc...

This is not a count of active installs, but, it gives some sense. I suspect the #s will go up as we near july... we had a huge spike in january.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to look at unique ip downloads of the plugin md5 file, as that would tell you how many servers were up and running on any given day.

unfortunately, we can't get unique IP downloads from bintray unless we upgrade to premium acount (which until we get the SageTV Foundation going, we are likely not going there )

Yeah, I know.. that's why I was thinking of trying to find a different host for those files.

Why not thesportsdb.com? They have an API and could be used as the sports version of tvdb or tmdb.

Code:
http://www.thesportsdb.com/api/v1/json/1/searchteams.php?t=Los%20Angeles%20Dodgers
The site doesn't currently have comprehensive data and is more Europe/Soccer focused but if those of us that cared did a bit of uploading then it could cover our needs.

edit - And assuming that we could create custom TV show/episode pages for sporting events then you could create team relevant backgrounds, etc.
