Seems to, but we'll see the next time I have to reboot, what may have fixed it was that I (temporarily) disabled the firewall and the HDHR showed up in SageDCT config right away. I then renabled it, but I haven't had to reboot since so we'll see I guess.

Does the file that sage asks for exist?

I assume you are referring to this line:
Code:
2012/08/16 19:53:25.18 : ProcessMessage 6972: GET_FILE_SIZE H:\sagetvh\ProjectRunway-ItsMyWayontheRunway-11663316-0.ts
2012/08/16 19:53:25.20 : SageDCTTuner 6972 Send: ERROR The path is not of a legal form.
Yes, that file exists.

Can someone provide an overview of when to use the new VLC function in SageDCT?

Quote:
2.3.0
- Add option to use VLC for RTP capture/file writing. Files created with this method will not have the special 'QAM' packet written to the front, but it will suppport MPEG-TS or MPEG-PS muxing by VLC based on the file extension requested by SageTV

x86 | x64

The idea is that VLC will remux the TS file into either a new MPEG-TS or MPEG-PS file that won't confuse the HD300's MPEG demuxer.

It's worth noting that this feature is experimental and hasn't been tested much. It works here, but I just tried it a few times and don't intend to use it with my real install so it will be important for those with issue to help vet the implementation. Also, I expect that tuning will be a little slower than with the native method (the VLC process has to spin up after all) so no complaints about that
The shows on some of my channels intermittently cannot be played back (though the file is fine and plays in MPC just fine). Not sure what the root cause is and wondering if this would help.

Also curious, what is the time delay on starting the VLC process?
And is it not possible to re-use an existing process rather than bring a new one up each time?

Do you have Comcast? You might be experiencing the same problem we have been having. Do you get a "No Signal" message?

Not in the current form. It might be possible to use VLC's API to manage this, but it would require some effort (from me) to figure out how to use it.

Does it matter which version of vlc.exe is installed?

Is backing out of it as easy as unchecking the box in SageDCT?

I only tested it with the most recent version, but it should work with previous revs too.

Does using the VLC lose the first part of the recording due to the delay? Or is the Delay only on Live Tv?

Thanks again for doing such a great job building SageDCT.

It would be great if you could do that sometime - I'm sure it would greatly improve the performance / response time.

Ok - strange thing occurred. Installed SageDCT - went to configure SageDCT (discover etc), ran configureSageDCT and the configuration app did not come up.
Do I need to stop the SageTV Service first? I thought this part of the configuration was independent?

I restarted and I am getting an error:

Could not start service SageDCT on local computer
Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion

What does this mean? I tried uninstalling and re-installing SageDCT and same thing.

.NET is installed as is SageTV.

SageDCT relies on the underlying Windows UPnP infrastructure. Whatever feature/role installs that on W2K3R2 needs to be enabled.

In my testing the delay adds a few seconds to the time it takes to "tune" a channel. So instead of taking ~3 seconds, it takes 6-7.

Given that we're only talking about a few seconds I suspect that there aren't huge gains to be had. More importantly, I'm hesitant to pull VLC in-process. Diagnosing "memory leaks" will become much more difficult.
