I've been having a ton of problems with XP so I wanted to make the switch to W7 before I have to give up and go to MCE. My DCT worked fine on XP (excepts for halts), but doesn't work AT ALL on a clean install of W7/Sage/DCT. I have no idea where to look with "Recording did not start". The firewall exceptions are there, and I can send tests from DCT Config and get responses.

cant get tuners back up on sagetv

Hi folks, sorry to bother with this. After the storm and power out for about a week, I tried to get Sagetv back up and running. All works fine except it no longer allows the prime tuners to function. They work in WMC, and are seen in SageDCT discovery, and even when i go to add a source. But once i add a lineup, it says the tuner is not functioning. I am not sure where to turn next to troubleshoot. Any ideas? thanks

Check your discovery ports on sagedct and compare to what is in your sage properties file -- the ports may have changed so you will have to either redo the port export or just change what sagedct reports them as manually.

Thanks, checked and the ports are the same, ie for one it has

mmc/encoders/123456970/encoding_host=127.0.0.1\:6970

I have tried to start over from scratch, but it seems the configuration is embedded in properties. I sense i am making more of a mess.

Apologies if this is a repeat question, but will SageDCT 64-bit work in Windows 8 64-bit? Any considerations when installing this and setting it up that might be different from how to get this working in win 7?

It should, but it hasn't been tested at all so I don't have any guidance.

And do I need to get the windows media center addon installed on top of windows 8 or is this decoupled from that (sorry it's been a while since I had to reset this up!)

You don't need WMC.

Set it up the same way and then make sure your firewall rules are set. I had no problem at all running and setting up in Windows 8 64 bit.

I think I set it up the same way and they seem configured fine within the SageTV UI. When I go to watch or record a show though I get a file with 0KB.

In the sagedct log, I see tons of "Startup Error: PBDA tuner not found". I used to use the PBDA option just fine in Win 7 with my Ceton tuner. Any thoughts on this?

Ah... in looking more closely, looks like I missed installing the required AVIVO drivers needed for PBDA support. I have the older installer for win 7... should I use that or is there a newer one I should try for win8?

UPDATE: I couldn't seem to get it working with PBDA and AVIVO and gave up. So I simply turned off the PBDA option and it seems to be working fine now. Refresh my memory... what's the benefit of PBDA again? And does anyone have PBDA working in win 8? If so, where did I go wrong?

There is no benefit now that VLC is an option.

There is no benefit now that VLC is an option.
Gotcha. So how do I get it to output MPG like I had before using the PBDA option? Is there a way to install windows 8 compatible avivo drivers?

Without that option, it is outputting to something like .TS or VC1 or something and my raspberry pi can't decode that (whereas it can decode MPG just fine). Does the VLC option get me that?

VC1 is a video codec only really found on HD disc media

I'm surprised that the RPI can't spit TS, but if you use VLC if you tell SageTV to request a .mpg (via sage.properties encoder setting) SageDCT will tell VLC to remux to MPEG-PS.

I'll try that out tomorrow (recording a bunch of stuff in .TS format tonight). Until then, is there a way to install AVIVO drivers in windows 8 so I can get thhe PBDA option working? I tried the VLC option quickly before my recordings all started and that didn't seem to work (I'll need to try it again). But thoughts on PBDA in windows 8? Or is that not an option at all in windows 8 and I really need to try to get the VLC option working?

OK my recordings are done for the night and now I'd like to try out the VLC option in sagedct 2.6. I set up the vlc path and am using vlc 2.0.4 (32-bit I think) on my 64-bit win8 setup. When I go to the test tab and click START, the sagedct window freezes and I only see a test.mpg file of 0 bytes in the location I specified.

Any idea on how to debug this further? My ultimate outcome is to get recordings in .mpg via sagedct... and I'm trying to get either the VLC option or PBDA option to work but neither are working.

Sorry for all of the posts but I seem to be getting a bit closer when trying the VLC method. I configured sagedct to use the VLC approach and on the test tab, I was able to successfully start and stop a .mpg recording and was able to view the recording just fine. I then don't touch that config, open SageTV, try to record a show, and a 0byte file is created and doesn't record.

Here's what I see in my sagedct log... thoughts?

Quote:
2012/11/09 07:08:04.97 : Error starting VLC: The process cannot access the file 'T:\SageTV Recordings\Today-S2012E314-7676284-0.mpg' because it is being used by another process.

And then later down the list I see
2012/11/09 07:37:23.80 : 6972 Exception encountered: Server.Send
2012/11/09 07:37:23.80 : An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine

I'm not going to put any more effort into PBDA tuning. If it works, great. If not...

I need to see more of the log. Email is probably best - andyvt@babgvant.com.
