Yep, and this fall as people get busy again, prepping for the fall TV season you'll see people coming to the forum to buy extenders or clients. And they'll read about Google's acquisition for the first time even though we've all known about it for months now. It'll be like groundhog's day.

My wife HATES that movie with a passion. Along with any other movie/TV episode that does the same "theme". She says that "flashback" TV episodes are almost as bad.

You want a prediction about SageTV, you're asking the wrong forum user. I'll give you a prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.

OK, summer is now well past but this forum still seems really quiet to me compared to the BG era. Do others agree?

We are being very quiet, so we don't miss the sound when the next shoe drops.

I know many things, but nothing related to the future of SageTV. I do remain hopeful - I love my SageTV.

If you read Brent's blog (geektonic) you will see that even he has lost the wind in his sails because of the sagetv purchase. I feel exactly the same way. I continue to use Sage on a very regular basis and love it. But when it stops working I am going to have to look at alternative if not sooner.

Thankfully, I only have one extender, so I'm not worried about my system stopping working. Worst case, I have to resume using my server as a viewer at one location.

I HAVE always said that clients are better than extenders... ya'll just didn't listen.. )

For a long time I pondered over getting extenders to replace my pc clients and each time I came to the conclusion that if things changed I'd be stuck with worthless extenders. Now my only issue is getting more client licenses.

+1 Clients are more flexible, I have 4 clients with rock solid playback. Hauppauge MVP is a prime example of the limits of extenders.

Well, I certainly wouldn't consider the MVP as analogous to all extenders. The HD-300's aren't really all that limited, feature wise. Performance is a bit slower than the average client (and quite a bit slower than a good client), but it is a LOT better than the MVP. Either way, it really doesn't matter, as you can't get either legitimately anymore.

I meant, with clients, you can add capabilities where extenders may fall short. True, you can't get either license anymore or sagetv extenders.

I agree with all of you that is why it would be nice if we could be granted some client licenses to limp along longer. Doesn't look like this iteration of Sage is going to be a profit center so lets open that baby up!

Maybe they could grant a PC Client license per extender to every user that purchased a media extender as some type of gratis backup for hardware that could fail. They should still have records and emails addresses for those.

I would like to see that. The HD100 and the MVP License I have are considered Place Shifter Licenses I would love to be able to use them for clients. That is what they were bought for in the first place not place shifting.

Why not just disable the client license requirement? That would be easier/less administration. It's not like Google/Sage is trying to derive more revenue from the SageTV product line.
