So then how do I just get it to record over HDMI? Or is that not possible? SageTV would not detect the card as a capture card until I applied the mod above.

Edit: I reinstalled the drivers without the inf mod as you suggested (yeah I must have glossed over the fact that the mod was to change the audio capture for that particular user). I am wondering if I need to do the same thing and change it so that it uses HDMI + SPDIF? Not sure if that is possible. My exact error in SageTV is the following when trying to setup the source and it performs the preview check:

"There was a Playback Error in playback. Details:
sage.PlaybackException: ERROR(-5.0x80040256):
There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback."

Not sure if that helps you at all.

Doing some digging I wonder if it is my sound drivers that are not acting properly. I had all kinds of problems getting that working.

Do you have speakers connected to the Win7 PC? I get that error if I have no audio output connected.

Can I run both the HD PVR 2121 and 1512?

Is it possible to use both the HD PVR 1212 and 1512? Or do I have to replace the 1212?

Thanks
Wayne

I am thinking about replacing my pair of colossus with HD-PVR2 because the colossus seem to be dying. It would give an device not found error and I had to power down the computer to restore it.

But when I look on amazon .. there like 3 or 4 different HD-PVR2 for sale on it and some doesn't have model number so I am not sure which is which to get. Or if you know a better place online to purchase it from, I would like to know.

Also it look like Hauppage is offering a new HD-PVR2 call GE Plus which suppose to be smaller in size. Anyone have this one working with SageTV?

I read the posts in this thread and it my understanding that I can use HDMI from my DirectTV to HD-PVR2 and I do not need to do nightly reboot correct? (Yes I have those "special" splitters)

Trying to determine what path to take to replace my colossus so any input will help a lot!

Thank you

Bill

GE Plus looks just like the others:

The Rocket is smaller, maybe that's what you've seen...

There are only two model
1st ver HD-PVR 2 Gaming Edition "1480"
2nd update ver HD-PVR 2 "1512" & HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus "1504" which are one in the same hardware the only diff is in cables and software packaging and led colors that it come with.
All 3 are the same size and same case shell.

As for the HD-PVR Rocket it is much smaller but it is not compatible with SageTV as it has no direct show support which why I can't get it to work as matter of fact it only compatible with Capture4ME, NextPVR, Hauppauge WinTV 7, Hauppauge Capture which are all base on using NextTelevision SDK (we know as NextPVR) and MAC software HDPVRCapture.

That right you only option in that case build a Mini / Booksize PC like
Intel NUC
DCCP847DYE
DC3217IYE
D34010WYK
Gigabyte
GB-BXA8-5545

I think this will work well
Intel NUC DCCP847DYE $145
Kingston SMS200S3/60G $70 mSATA
Crucial CT25664BF1339 2GB order a pair $50 Memory
Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC $33 Wireless
That all need is OS Windows 7 or 8 or Linux and Placeshifter Client
But I'm not sure about Keyboard and Mouse or some kind of Pointer device or Remote Control
Maybe something like this Rii Mini i8 Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad

Using the latest driver from Hauppauge (1.5.32007). While audio drift and stuttering now seem to be better controlled, I'm running into occasional problems of no 5.1 stream being recorded at all. Seems to be rather channel specific, two weekends in a row of NBC Sport Network's Indy car coverage with no audio track in the TS file.

Anyone else?

I've been using the original HD-PVR with component video for years, but need to update to HDMI video.

Based on what I read in this thread I need to:

1) Buy an HD-PVR2 model 1512 or 1504
2) Use an HDMI splitter: input to the cable box, output 1 to the HD-PVR2, output 2 to the AV receiver HDMI input. (The splitter I have is the ViewHD VHD-1X2MN3D)

My objectives:
1) Record 1080i HD video from cable box into SageTV with 5.1 audio.
2) Play back video on computer running SageTV, or on HD300 extender.
3) Operation of TV and AV system should not be dependent on computer that hosts SageTV.
4) Video path from cable box to HD-PVR2 should not be affected by whether TV or AV receiver are powered up.

I already have a USB-UIRT so I don't need to use the IR blaster functionality.

Will this work? Am I missing any important factors?

It a bit more then that as the Splitter only solve half of the problem as for AC3 5.1 Audio that is in EDID setting that real pain in neck with HDMI so you end having to used the ViewHD VHD-H2HSAS as well or just use a Digital Optical Audio Toslink Cable.

I have a few questions about the HD PVR2 models 1512 and 1504.

1) I noticed both appear to work under Sage - are there any major pros/cons over one or the other?
- I noticed the 1512 comes with a blaster - but the 1504 does not (but supports it on the box). Should I assume that these units would share the same kind of blaster/receiver cable as per older devices? (I could ask their support). Worst case I assume I could buy a cable from their store.

- If I was buying one today - which of the two would be the better choice.

2) How would two HD PVR2s work with IR blasters? I have an SD HVR-1600 and when I inserted the HVR-2250, the IR blaster stopped working with the HVR-1600 - and was told by Hauppauge support the "drivers" only supported one card.

So I am wondering if the drivers with the HD PVR2s now support multiple units.

3) Assuming yes to (2) - how many HD PVR2s could be supported within Sage on once PC? (for 3-4 cable boxes?)

Thanks,
belly
