Hi,

Sorry I haven't contributed sooner I can confirm that my set up works pretty much flawlessly, it took me ages to find a set up that worked well for me as my system runs 24/7. I found that a lot of hardware / software solutions seemed to run fine for a day or two but would become unstable after a couple of days so getting a set up that would run full time without needing rebooting or similar was quite a challenge.

This is what I found:-

1) Start with an S2-HD tuner (or tuners) that have a hardware CAM interface and also have native CAM supported built into the SageTV software. To my knowledge there are only a few that do, these include the Anysee E7 S2 or FireDTV-S2.

Note - You can only run one (or possibly two) FireDTV tuners at a time before they fall over, but you can have at least 4 Anysee's running together (probably more).

2) Use a hardware CAM (or one for each tuner if you want multiple tuners) that are compatible with sly's encryption, I use Diablo WiFi cams. If you set them up correctly they are very reliable. Plug one into each tuners (in my case four) CAM interface.

Have a look here http://sagetv.wikia.com/wiki/Common_Access_Module

3) A CAM server, I run OSCAM which reads my sly card and connects to each of the Diablo Wifi cams via CCCAM or similar. You could use a Dreambox to run the server. For OSCAM I use the Windows build 6089.

My set up is pretty much bullet-proof and rarely misses a beat I have four Anysee E7 S2s running 24/7 365 and soon I will be adding a fifth Anysee (when I get round to buying another Diablo Wifi CAM). In my experience Anysee E7 S2 tuners are very good tuners for use with SageTV.

I also have a few other tuners which I set up for non-encrypted channels.

Sorry I can't help with the "MDAPI filter" as I don't use software CAMs.

I hope this helps and good luck,

David

For info - My SageTV machine is running Windows 7 64bit, AMD 1090, Raid 5 of about 10TBs+ of HDDs, AMD Graphics Card X3870X2, 6 x HD300s and load of other stuff.

Different approach...

Folks,

regarding the SageTV and CAM support I decided to take a different approach and started already the development of a new SageTV plugin that will allow the decryption of multiple tuners with direct access to a card server like OSCAM, that's it!

That means, no more MDAPI, ACAMD, DVBLogic, DVBE4SAGE, complex setup and the like, but a simple, robust, custom solution dedicated to SageTV only.

If everything is going in the right direction, you will be able to simply install the plugin, configure the tuners you want to associate to a valid and genuine subscription card via OSCAM card server allowing multiple tuners to use one or more cards. Also the plugin will auto-generate an appropriate OSCAM user configuration file.

Stay tuned...

Eddy

Routerunner, been really busy and sorry I've not been around recently. Glad to see there is some momentum around this.

Wow, if you could that would certainly get me to go Native! I'm willing to assist where possible.

The thing is I spent a lot of time trying to make the MPDAPI + ACAMD + OSCAM working with SageTV with little result and the main reason is not because of SageTV, but the fact that more software in the chain makes more difficult to get everything working properly, without considering compatibility issues between the different software in the chain.

Two years ago I bought a Tivusat subscription card to watch Italian channels and still not being able to use it natively with SageTV. Well, yes I could replace my tuners with Anysee's, but I need four including four WiFi CAMs, also I don't want to use network encoders as they will re-introduce "the pause" that my family literally hates, so I decided to take the plunge and develop a custom solution that hopefully will be simple and stable.

When time will come, I'll definitively need DVB-T/C/S volunteers for testing...

Eddy,

If I can help then let me know, it sounds like another exciting project, I am very jealous of your programming skills.

All the best and good luck,

David

David,

yes, it is a very exciting project indeed and so far is going pretty well too. In a few days I'm going to create a separate thread to keep track of this project progress and development.

Cheers
Eddy

Native tuning parameters

Just testing mdapi again, whilst Routerunner is busy.

Can someone confirm the physical tuner format for adding a channel to sage.

I believe it is

onid-tsid-sid-channel number

eg bbc 1 london is
2-2045-6301-101

It's starting to work!

Just a little update...

I can confirm that my new plugin is working properly in bypass mode (no decryption), whilst SageTV is running in service mode.

I'm over the moon with this. This is a very important step as it proves that is possible to insert a DirectShow filter whilst in service mode, something that MDAPI wasn't able to do with SageTV.

Very soon, I'll start a new thread and post the filter along with the very simple instruction for volunteers willing to perform as much test as possible with different OS and tuner combination.

It is vital for me to catch any possible compatibility issues at this stage of the project.

Bye for now...

The decryption filter discussion has moved....

Regarding the new decryption filter for SageTV mentioned here I've created two new threads below:

Announcement thread:
