HD300 video question...

Hi all..

So, we have two HD300's that were originally purchased about a year before Sage was acquired.. One gets used daily and is plugged in 24x7 and the other is unplugged most of the time (on a power switch) and is used only a few times per week.. The unplugged one works perfectly with regards to video but the 24x7 one is showing some font issues. In the program guide or anywhere else that has fonts showing (except as part of program titles) there are pixels missing on the vertical side.. I can of course make things out but it's not nearly as good as the other unit.. Is it possible that a capacitor or something is slowly failing causing the HDMI video font issue?

Can you please post a picture showing the issue?

Thanks

here you go -- taken from the Phoenix program guide

In this first one notice the vertical pixels missing on the word "mendez" and "unveils"..

On the next one notice the messed up "Program Guide" label

On the last one notice the messed up "cooking", "create" (on the "e"), etc..

The same images on the other HD300 look way better.. Both are via HDMI and the other unit has an overall crisper image IMHO

Thanks for the pictures. You're saying that on the other unit it looks way better, but not perfect as it should be?

Three main things can go wrong here:
1) The TV
2) The HDMI cable
3) The HD300

What I would do is to test each of the three separately to nail down the issue starting with swapping the HD300 first, then the cable then the TV.

Thanks
Eddy

I think I'll cut to the chase and just swap out the HD300 with the other one and see if the problems change.. I suspect they will..

If it turns out to be the HD300, what's the chance it's a fixable issue (discrete component failure vs ASIC failure or similar)? I know I'm asking an unanswerable question but have heard that some people have had issues with discrete component failures (caps, resistors, etc) in the past on some of these -- at least as I recall..

If that does fix the issue, I'd try deleting the properties folder for that extender on the server (make a backup first) to reset all the settings like overscan and the like.
That looks more like a software issue (HD300 or TV) than a hardware one.
