I restarted the PC from that fresh install and everything looks fine. I can see the log file.

I suspect that the first install where SageTV decides it need not restart does not build the classpath properly.

I wonder also if the version of logback I use for logging may be in use by other plugins at a different version and there is a conflict.

I may decide to use a more reliable logging framework.

Michael

*UPDATE*
Confirmed. I have two version of slf4j on my classpath. And also three versions of the servlet API - though that could have a more stable API.

Main first thing is to get logging working then we can work out the rest. Those with broken installs may I suggest a restart of your server box.

Have rebooted my server a few times and uninstalled and reinstalled.

Uninstalling has broke things. I now have nothing under iPlayer and have ran the update a few times.

On the plus side the webpage is works.

Gave this a try by installing it on my test server (latest java, SageTV, 64bit windows 7, existing get_iplay install)

Installed without issues and it started refreshing the catalog. Two hours later it finished refreshing and started refreshing it again aparently starting from scratch.

Quick check of the catchup status shows 310 warnings and 1 error. Lots of "series title not found", "series number not found" and "Channel not found", often for the same program.

Everything looks presnt in the iPlayer folder, although its a bit spread out for my liking. However looking at "Click" in the A-Z listing lists the shows in some strange order, 06/09/2014, 12/07/2014, 13/09/2014, 20/09/2014, 07/06/2014 etc Cant play any of them as I always get told the file cant be found. Once it stops filling the log with the catalog refresh Ill see if I can dig out whats happenning.

Defintely looking forward to the updates.

Thank you for trying it out.

Will set a fixed overnight refresh time and an initial install refresh.

Most of the cataloging errors are warnings- some programmes are iplayer only and do not have a channel as such i.e. BBC One, BBC Two. Many programmes are not part of a series. These are just warnings to keep up awareness of meta-data quality.

With the cataloging errors whic are considered error level I usually find randomly one or two episodes cannot be found. Perhaps this is due to churn on the iplayer website perhaps I need to have some retries.

"a bit spread out for my liking"

Please expand on that.

Better ordering by date is something I need to look at.

There is an issue with get_iplayer were it cannot play anything older that 7 days (but Iplayer now keeps for 30 days). It could be that. Apparently will be fixed in get_iplayer 2.87.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am working on a 0.3 version that attempts to address the issues seen so far.

Hi,

Built a VMImage of Window 7 32bit

Still not joy.

Log folder now appears but all the errors point to not been able to find "Program Files (x86)"

Any references to those paths will be in

sagetvcatchup/config/sagetvcatchup.properties

You can edit those and disable/enable the plugin to pick up.

Yeah I suspected this was how things were expected to work at the moment

seems I needed to restart SageTV again! might have been related to the broken web server install (lots of files missing for some reason) Ah! Didnt know iPlayer was going to be updated. I though development had stopped. Good to hear though

After all the issues are fixed, a few tweaks might be useful to the layout of programs. Looking at "Coast" under "C" for example. I can see the Series number but only part of the title. Also cant see the episide numbers although they were picked up according to the log.

Hi

Was wondering if there is an update to this plugin.

I'm still having issues and can't get it working.

I have been trying your plugin - would love to have it working. I have gotten it installed and peopled but have had no luck with actual recording.

I need to refer to 3 previous posts for this one:

1. from Wayner - The geo-restriction can be overcome with services like Unblockus.
I am in Canada and am using Unblockus and have often used get_iplayer so that should be fine.

2. from deanm - "There was an error playing
C:users\admin\appsdata\local\temp\onlinevideoxxxx.flv:
Error(-2):Files selected for playback are no longer on disk"

I am getting the same error or sometimes I get the error:
The requested media file was not found on the server

3. from pjwerdna
his whole message has happened to me - the cataloging restarting as soon as it finishes, all the errors, and, ultimately, unplayable files.

I have checked the iplayer index and only selected episodes of shows that are available there. I have tried it with get_iplayer already started in Windows and without having it started. I've enabled and disabled the plugin.

I have specified L:/SageTV as my iplayer recording directory and it works fine on a show I choose to download through iplayer - downloading the flv and then converting it to mp4 once that is done. But in the C:\\users etc directory specified in the error message, I just have a lot of 0 sized flv files.

Sorry this is so scattered - I just don't know how to troubleshoot.

I'd be happy to send any logs you might need and thanks! Julie

Hi folks,

I'm working on a new version which I hope will address issues.

I think the main problem has been the range of environments to deploy to.

Not just which OS etc but which plugins are also installed and what the SageTV classpath ultimately looks like.

The new version will have very lightweight SageTV plugin which launches a separate server process to do most of the work - this means it can have its own classpath and also will not kill SageTV if things get out of hand.

I have done a fair amount of other work e.g.
  • Reducing catalog time from 2hrs 10 mins to...... 8 mins
  • Added a "Search" facility
  • Fixed many recording state bugs
  • Many improvements to status reporting
  • Many other minor issues and response to suggestions

Testing at the moment. Hope to publish this by the weekend.

Michael

wow! sounds great - I can't wait. (especially the 8 minute catalog time - took me over 2 hours!).

I'll keep checking and try it out when it's up - good luck!

Great work on this. For those having problems streaming the video a Java update did it for me. A couple of questions
1..Is it possible to set to view streams and recordings in HD
2..Could programmes include a recently added and most popular index?

Great plug in and a long time overdue!

Hi,

At the moment it chooses default - which is often HD. I guess it would be easy to show the options. Will add that to the wish list.

There is a recently added category in the next release.

Theres is also a favourites category linked to your SageTV favourites.

Its looking good for release sunday/monday

I will be looking forward to trying it out. However, I think the problem I'm having is because of my vpn. I can access and download from get_iplayer in the DOS command window as well as on the web (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer) but when I try the iPlayer Web PNR I have no success and get the errors:
ERROR: RTMP_Connect0, failed to connect socket. 10061 (Unknown error)
ERROR: RTMP_Connect1, handshake failed

So I guess the problem is on my end and I can't figure it out.

SageTV Catchup 0.3.3

I have released version 0.3.3

Announcement here

Users of the initial 0.2.7 should completely uninstall first and are advised to check the sagetvcatchup subdirectory within SageTVs directory has been removed.

If you have made property changes you will need to reapply them after installation of 0.3.3.

Regards,

Michael

Installed new version and still not working.

I did as us said. Uninstalled plugin and made sure Sagetvcatchup folder was removed.

Installed new version but this time i get an error when trying to Start Cataloging

"Iplayer Source Iplayer Unable to get programmes: No such propery : stopFlag for class: Iplayer.getProgrammes."

So I don't have any programmes to test. The iPlayer folder is there but when i click on the Test Icon an click Watch I get the same error as before

"Files selected for playback are no longer on disk"

And still don't have any log files.

I'm still confused as to how this works. Can you explain what the Recored Icon does?

Dean

Hi Dean,

Always the brave early adopter ;-)

Sorry for the trouble

I'm a little gobsmacked - I have the plugin on three different OS's on three different machines and have never seen this failure mode.

It sounds to me like there is there is some code from the old version still in operation.

Have you tried a server restart - I do not trust it when SageTV does not restart on a plugin first time install.

It might be worth a complete scorched earth policy:
  • Uninstall the plugin
  • Shutdown the server
  • Remove anything in the JARs directory that has sagetvcatchup in the name
  • Remove the sagetvcatchup sub directory
  • Remove anything in C:\Windows\Temp that has sagetvcatchup in the name
  • Startup the server
  • Check to see that SageTV has not "magiced" anything back again into JARS or sagetvcatchup folder
  • Install 0.3.3.
  • Restart server even if it says you don't have to

Where is the "Recored Icon"?

Plugin works fine here - just the recording that fails and, as I said previously, I think that problem is here at my end. I get a java.lang.Exception.
