I think I got both real time transcoding and .ts output working. I copied two settings that SageDCT makes. I would like to know what the capture_config does. I tried searching, but I was not able to find any specific info.

Code:
mmc/encoders/1012343954/1/0/video_crossbar_type=100
mmc/encoders/1012343954/capture_config=299008
I have been transcoding to h264 at average bitrate of 4000kb using ultrafast preset. on my older server which is a dual socket Opteron 2389 I am seeing about 25% cpu usage (both cpus, 8 cores). When recording and transcoding three streams I am seeing 70% cpu usage. I think a reasonably powerful system is required to transcode more than one stream at a time.

On a positive note I have made it possible to turn transcoding on and off by tuner. I think the realtime transcoding will reduce filesize ~4 times. My recordings were around 7 gigs per hour. With the current transcoding settings I think the recording will be around 1.8 gigs an hour.

Are any of the beta testers interested in testing transcoding? You will need a fairly decent cpu in your server...

Count me in I have a I3 3.07 GHZ and an I7 laptop desktop replacement. I gather that this might work with the newer OTA tuners. I have 1 that I can see if it works with also.

Sounds good! I will update the documentation and send it out. Might not get it out until tomorrow. You may need to use a different EPG for the OTA tuner to get it to work properly. The only road block I see for it to work is that Sage passes the channel in a format that HDHomeRun_config.exe expects. If it is not working properly that is the first thing I would check.

Where do you think I should put the official release post? Should I put it in the customization forum, or should I keep it in the hardware section?

I believe SageDCT is in the Hardware so you might follow that lead if Not I am sure Andy will move it to the proper place. Thanks a lot guess I am done for the day.

This would go in the hardware forum. When you are ready, I can add a link to the topic in the sticky for "Tuner Configuration Tips & Instructions".

It isn't a true plugin using the built-in plugin system, correct?

Andy

Thanks Andy,

You are correct it is not a true plugin. I will send you a message when I post the official release. I think I am really close now.

On your tuner Doc you have an error with this property it has the same tuner # for all 3 occasions.

mmc/encoders/1012343954/1/0/encode_digital_tv_as_program_stream=false

Also check this one on all 3 tuners.
mmc/encoders/1012343954/1/0/available_channels=

Just trying it out tonight on the test server if everything records tonight will switch over to the main server tomorrow. The spaced directory works fine so far and the fire wall is no problem so far.

To Record and Transcode 3 shows on the fly takes between 45 - 60 % CPU on my laptop. Which is not bad as CPU is made to be used not sitting Idle
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz, 2301 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s).

I am not sure if FFMPEG supports hardware transcoding or Quicksync I know handbrake does.

I'd like to get a copy of it as well. I'd also like to see the source, as this sounds like something that could be done via a plugin as well (or at least gain some benefit by a plugin aiding in configuration, and even managing channel scanning).

I believe there is a patched version of ffmpeg in the wild that supports accelerated encoding based on nvidia's nvenc hardware assisted H.264 encoder, but I don't have an nvidia gpu, so I never dug any deeper into it.

Are you saying it works with all three of your tuners set in the above text to :7000?

Maybe if possible a future release can have some kind of re-size. Like re-size 1920x1080 to 1280x720 etc...

0.0.3 is working great here!!

Transcode works too, except for one problem I found. If I tune to a channel which is 1080i, the recording seems to crash randomly and doesn't restart. If I disable deinterlacing during transcode, it's stable.
