Yes, I believe the stock STV has a view for them. Don't really remember as I haven't used stock STV in years.

I've asked our Gracenote engineer if the editorials come from them, and if yes, if it's possible for us (Schedules Direct) to get access to them.

Why is my win7/Sage7/SDv7EPG showing TV Editorials and my win10/Sage9/SDv9EPG not showing TV Editorials??

Did the SD Plugin change in substance from v7 to v9?

No, literally a few import statements were changed to work with the new jar, that's it. My guess is the data is provided by the Sage epg service, which you presumably used at some point in v7 and that data continues to pull even after changing to an epg plugin. Now that you've got v9 pulling the editorials, it'll be interesting to see if it continues to if you were to switch back to sdepg in v9.

But either way, the sdepg plugin does not have access to nor loads any such data itself.

I don't understand it either, but I did reinstall the SD OSS Plugin and the TV Editorials are indeed still there. Will monitor for a week or so and see if they stay up to date.

so then if it works, where does one find them, aka what's the route? I can't seem to see them (S7, W7 32 bit)

It's in the TV submenu - Label is TV Show Editorials.

My Gracenote rep said that he's not sure where the editorials are coming from, but it doesn't look like anything that he's seen before.

That doesn't mean that they're not coming from Gracenote, just that he's not familiar with the source. If someone from Sage wants to send me a PM and let me know which feed they're coming from, and editorials are a goal for the OS version of Sage, then I can certainly send that back to my Gracenote rep to see if Schedules Direct can get access to the data.

The information for upcoming episodes contained in the editorials is the same as shows up when highlighting an episode in the epg grid, which I assume is part of the pulled epg data.

I don't know how the shows are selected to appear in the TVE (tired of typing editorials) but there are about 300 there out of the much, much larger total of guide listings. They may use the intelligent recording algorithm to make the selections. Or maybe it's shows in the prime time slots for the 14 days of guide listings.

EDIT: I think the TVE screen is a SageTV rendering of info from the guide data - not something prebuilt elsewhere and downloaded.

No the descriptions are not the same. They sometimes say similar things, but are usually completely different.

Similar would have a better word for me to use as the TVE does have a bit more flousish, but as I said earlier it's sort of a combination of Series Information and Program Information in most cases.

Using the SDEPG plugin, I would be happy to have the TVE even with only the guide description as a quick lookahead to upcoming programs.

@Slugger: I've been watching the TVE that was generated when I switched over to SageEPG and then back to SDEPG. The TVE doesn't repopulate with newer listings that are added to the guide by SD. JUST an observation FYI. Not asking for any mod to SDEPG.

The TV Editorials in SageTV are the "Best Bets" feed from Tribune, where the built-in EPG data comes from.

The editorial text is not something that SageTV builds itself from the show and/or series info.

And, it is not something that is currently included in the Schedules Direct EPG source.

Wow... I tried to be precise in my statement and ended up making a prediction!? I have no idea if it will ever be in the SD feed; I'm just saying that what you are seeing is not coming from the SD EPG data you have configured.

OK, I've been given sample data so that I can determine how to parse it. Since this would cost extra I'll have to determine if it's something that Schedules Direct is going to subscribe to.

How is the Editorial typically presented in the UI?

I think this is all moot (at least short term) because the TVEditorialAPI is read only. There's no way to insert data via API so it seems the only thing that can load editorial data is the core. Someone would have to add the write capabilities to the TVEditoriaAPI so plugins (like sdepg) could insert this data. Until that's done, even if SD provided access to the data, sdepg has no way to insert it.

There is a separate screen called "editorials" that lists them, sorted by date. They are arranged in a grid with thumbnail image, title date, and the first few word of the description. Clicking on one opens a new screen that shows the image a little larger along with the full description and has buttons to search for future airings.

I never liked the title (Editorials), something like "TV Recommendations " or "What to Watch" would make more sense.

Just use the API in Wizard.java to add them in directly now that it's open source. (the same way WarlockRipper.java does it)
