What causes audio drift
I have setup sage on my new system, and the audio is slightly off.
I have adjusted for it, but it is quite hard to find the exact number. On my test system, there was no need to adjust. What causes audio drift please? Thanks, Simon. |

A couple things are possible. The first thing you should do is change the audio renderer with 0 delay. This will likely fix the problem. The Direct sound renderer
causes delay for me. If this does not fix it, then change the decoder. If you are dont already use it, try the mpeg default decoder. |

definitely sounds to be a sound render and decoder issue
do not leave them as default wave out is always a good choice I personally think the mpeg audio decoder is poor quality but it may resolve your problem |

kny3twalker, that was not intended to be the fix, just the start of troubleshooting. If that solves it, he can then play and see what works. Always start with the default as I have never seen it NOT work correctly.

This is an interesting thread because I had the audio drift from the video -- or maybe I should say the video seemed to drift away from the audio. When my system was new, all of three weeks ago, video and audio were aligned. Over the next several days the video lagged the audio more and more. The delay was even getting worse while watching an off the air show. I use the Sonic audio and video decoders. I'm up to 50 ms delay for the audio and things seem to be stable now (but I also thought this a few days ago when I had to add another 10 or 20 ms delay)

Drift can also be caused by disk fragmentation. Try the above steps first though.

Amazing! Kny3twalker, simply f'ing amazing! Sage's audio and video has kept in sync since installing ReClock.
Thanks for the tip. BTW: I have been getting soft-lockups for quite some time, and have noticed that the lockups coincided with the video drift. When I say video drift, per SteveP that is exactly what it is. When watching the video and listening to the audio on a monitor attached to the Sage system, they stay in sync, but when watching it on the TV, the video will get out of sync. Hope this helps some other people!

LOL, it turns out that it was the program that I was watching that had the audio problem.
That explains why when I went to another channel, I was always trying to chase the magic value. |
