Upgrade Issues to 2.1 with STV's

Hi everyone,

First of all I have a love hate relationship with Sage. Love that I can record all those TV shows and watch them later, hate that I will go over on my disk storage budget this year. I'm a rat pack, can't delete anything!!

Now my question. I have 2.0, dual tuner, and Niels STV, maybe Malores as well. Everything is beautiful. When I upgraded a while back with the beta product of 2.1 I had some issues and had to back out. It was pretty much unusable for me. Not I am nice and cozy in my setup of 2.0 and would like to try again. Can I recover my current setup if the upgrade fails to produce a workable copy of 2.1?? Will the STV's work the way they do now??

Thanks, Bjorn

To save your current setup, just copy the Frey Tech folder somewhere safe and install the new version. If something goes wrong, uninstall the new version, delete the Frey Tech folder (not the backup ) and reinstall the old version, then copy the backup Frey Tech folder back.

As for 2.1. There were some changes in 2.1 than can cause issues with 2.0 STVs. Your best bet is to use one of the updated 2.1 STVs, I know Andy's Maldude2 has most of Malore's stuff in it, and Nielm has updated his stuff for 2.1 so you should be good to go.

Nielm,

If I may take a moment of your time and ask a question. Do you recommend 2.0 or 2.1 of Sage??

Thanks, Bjorn

I use 2.1 (which is required for my webserver, and importable STV modules). I also like some of the 2.1 features (the ability to run the recording core as a service), but I am aware that some other users have had problems with it... And No-one is developing 2.0 STV's any more...

But if you are happy with what you have, then I would not recommend an upgrade just for the sake of it

If you backup your entire fey tech directory (including wiz.* and sage.properties) then you can always go back to the old version if you don't like 2.1

Nielm,

I got it working... Yipeeh!!! Turns out that the problem is this. I had permissions on the share for the remote user and password. The share was located at the root, but I didn't give permissions on the root drive itself. Once I also shared out the root drive itself, everything started working. All my paths that I had entered worked, my DVD's showed up, my video clips, music, the whole nine yards. I supposed that this should be marked up as user error.

Sorry for the run-around. I am very happy, perhaps even giddy at the thought of having sage run correctly as a service.

Thanks again for helping me out and staying with me, I would have given up without your replies to my posts.

Thanks, Bjorn
