HDHomeRun or Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
If you have one of these could you please list the pros and cons, I am trying to decide which one to get.
I want to record digital basic cable. Thanks Scat |
I have HDHomerun....
Pros: 1. Very easy to set up, seamlessly worked in SageTV (I did not need to do any manual configuration, though YMMV). 2. Being a network device, you can put it wherever you want (does not have to be located at the server). 3. Has, IMO, great picture quality (I don't have others to compare it to, but I have seen people complain about other tuners, have never seen a PQ complaint about the HDHR). 4. Customer service seems to be very responsive and helpful (see note in "cons"). Cons: 1. Only ATSC (OTA) or QAM.... if that is a "con" (by "basic digital cable", do you want just those available through QAM, or more?). If you are wanting more than just your local QAM channels, the HDHR is not for you. 2.Had a problem with a batch of power supplies that were sent out (they died after about 3+ months), it has since been fixed and customer service was very quick to remedy it (sent replacements very quickly). However, this shouldn't be a problem as (presumably) all new units sent out now should have the new power supply with them. If you somehow got a unit with an old (bad) power supply, you just put in your unit number on their website and you'll get a replacement in the mail in about 3 or 4 days, no questions asked. Hmmm... seems like there should be more "Pros" for how pleased I have been with it. But I guess the biggest compliment I can give is, "it just works, you don't really have to think about it". |
The HVR2250 would/will be my choice.
NTSC and on board header expansion. Cheaper. Internal basically goof proof once installed. |

I just ordered a second unit - and the new units definitely come with a revised power supply. The first unit I bought had the bad one - Silicon replace PRONTO - before it died... I would agree - the HDHR is SUCH a great unit, it really does seem like the PRO list should be more... :) |
