Encoder Merit question

Following is sage.properties parameter for encoder merit:
mmc/encoders/XXX/encoder_merit

As I understand it, assigning higher numbers, increases the preference of the encoder, all other things being equal, right?

However, default is zero. Does "0" mean no particular merit or does the count simply start from zero rather than "1". In other words, if having multiple encoders and wanting to assign preference, should the count be 0,1,2....etc. or 1,2,3....etc. or no matter? Essentialy wondering if zero may have additional definition associated with it such as "null preference" and would not be ranked against other encoders.

I'm not 100% sure how the core is handling that, but I would think 0 is just another value, like most other situations; I've never been told that it means anything else. If you don't want to worry about whether that is true, simply make 1 the lowest number when you make your changes. :)

Like Opus4 said, 0 is just another value. I have 3 250's and 1 350, and I have the 3 250's set at 1, and the 350 set at 0, and it only uses the 350 when the 250's are all recording.
