You're not going to do any better than 720p for most sports regardless if it's streaming, OTA, cable or satellite. ABC, ESPN, FOX, Fox Sports and MLB Network all broadcast at 720p as networks.

Multichannel AAC would work for me, but most of these box datasheets talk about stereo AAC. Since AC3's patent has expired I expect we'll see capture devices...
