My HD300 triggers the transcoding on the server as well for H.265's, but I'm not sure what decides what conversion to use. Mine are for some reason always targeted for postage stamp size resolution...

I take it you have no problems with analog audio if SageTV is out of the picture...

Question Well, this is odd, recorded shows suddenly being renamed to "Surround" or "Stereo"

I'm not sure what I did, but starting Sunday Feb 20th, a variety of new (and some old!) recordings have had their media types changed to "Movie" from "TV" and their titles and episode names changed...

The scanners are pretty good at figuring out what's what. Speaking of which, I fixed my issue by using the SageTVMovie agent and the Plex Movie (legacy) scanner. I must have used the wrong one...

Did you try the AC3 conversion? that's where I would start. I use AC3 passthrough (mostly 5.1 content from cable and DirecTV) when running my overnight Handbrake stuff (via Mediashrink).
