I run anti-virus, firewalls, and browser extensions on all of the machines....

That is why I left my SageTV server on Windows 7. I am able to turn off automatic updates. The system is frozen at a working level.

We do 90% of our watching on a surround sound 5.1 system. When we watch a stereo only recording, it is very noticeable:thumbdown.

My issue is with Comcast On-Demand. Give you at least 15 minutes of commercials in an hour...

I also have Xfinity/Comcast and except for Premium channels (i.e. HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc.) you can record everything with a Prime and cablecard.
