That's the problem with using old threads for new problems. A new thread should have been started in both places, one for 'standalone' mode here and one in 'extender' mode in the Sage Software...

Give it a try. I think the viewing spec is for HDPVR's software, which you won't be using. You should be able to view via SageTV just fine.
