All channels show 100% signal, but "No Signa;" on screen?

I recently had a problem with the NAS that I have my sageTV recordings saved to. I fixed that, and after I did, found we'd had problems with recordings.

Today I finally got a chance to look at it and found that ALL channels when i try to tune, display "No Signal" on screen.

Tried checking the tuner setup, and when I tried to preview a channel it shows 100% signal, but displays no signal on screen (though if I recall the 100% signal is not accurate using the open DCT?).

I tried watching a recording and it seems OK, but takes a LONG time to close when I hit stop.

The tuner is the Ceton Infinitv 6 Ethernet, using the sage Open DTC software, and has been working well for years.

I just checked the event log on the Sagetv system and see a number of application errors related to java starting yesterday:

Faulting application name: java.exe, version: 7.0.790.15, time stamp: 0x5528644f
Faulting module name: jniavformat.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x562c369b

Report Id: 38e790f4-4742-11e8-83fd-003067b2415d

I updated Java to be safe, still get the error every time it tries to start to record.

I also updated to the latest open DCT, and SageTV 9.1.8.770.

Any ideas what might be going on or how best to figure it out or troubleshoot??

I tested with Windows Media Center, and it tuned fine and received video, so it seems clear it's something in sage or Open DCT...

Thanks for any suggestions or assistance!

Mick

Having multiple versions of Java installed can sometimes cause strange issues. To investigate, start by opening Control Panel -> Java. Click the Java tab, then View. Check both User and System tabs. If there are multiple versions installed, try removing ALL of them and then re-install just one.

I recall that if the 32-bit version of OpenDct is installed, then 32-bit Java should be installed.

Nope, just the one 8 update 171, and defninitely 32 bit, as is the Open DCT.

Thanks though!

There might be some interesting info in the log file created by OpenDCT. Should be under C:/Program Data/OpenDCT (or similar). Post it here for others to take a look at.

The above looks like a good place to start debugging.

And that's the NAS that went down!

Where would openDCT get the credentials from? I have a mapped drive in windows that I had to reset the password on (since resetting the nas kept the date but reset the admin password, users and network), so I don't know what user it was connecting to it with...?
Thanks so much for spotting that, it must have been off the page as I was scrolling down through...

OpenDCT itself knows nothing of credentials. It merely tries to access the filesystem. The OS keeps track of credentials.

Having said that, recall that Windows won't allow access to mapped drive letters unless it's within the context of a specific user logon. Normally, when you want a Windows **service** (such as Sage & OpenDCT) to access a network share, it must be done using the //machinename/sharename semantics (not X:/share).

Open up Windows Management Console, expand Services & Applications -> Services. Scroll down to the SageTV service and double-click to open it. Click the Log On tab. Under "Log on as", "This account" should be selected. You'll see the (Windows) username & password that Sage uses for accessing network shares. Make sure the NAS' share credentials matches this.

May need to repeat the above for the OpenDCT service, too. I don't recall.

!!Got it!!

Tried creating my 'sagetv' user on the nas, and tried two passwords, neither worked so I moved on. Saw that the sagetv service was starting as the local administrator account, so created a user named administrator on the nas with the same password. No luck. ( this thing's been running well so long, I have NO idea what the setup was!)

THEN, I realized the 'guest' account (the 'no credentials access') was disabled after resetting the nas.

I enabled the guest account, and saw it already had read write permissions for the 'sagetv' share on the NAS!

Once I was done restarted the sage and OpenDCT services and we're good.

Thank you SO much for your help with this. I think I have an actual disability... I NEVER think to check the logs!

Thanks again.

Mick
