Include in the installer the option to set up SageTV as a service and the option to specify an account for it to run under.

Service mode was documented in the original SageTV User Manual (pdf) that was included as a part of the Sage 7 installer, but probably could have had more explanation. That old doc hasn't been updated in quite a while and hasn't been part of the V9 installers.

There's the same section about service mode on the little-known Sage Wiki. The wiki includes some updates relevant to Sage 9.

Maybe adding a link to the wiki on the first post of the Sage 9 Installer thread would help both old and new users.

It seems really obvious in hindsight, but I guess it was just the fact that most software either installs a service or it doesn't; having an option felt weird. I originally had assumed, incorrectly, that the recording engine would have already been a service.
I think one thing that would have helped with service mode is having been around before there WAS a service mode and seeing the requests on the forum to create it. Which was done at version 2.1 put out just after I started using SageTV. There was a lot of information about it and early problems at that time.

I came in around 6.5, so I definitely wasn't an early adopter by a long stretch. It sounds like the service being optional was a result of legacy compatibility.
