hd homerun / hd pvr questions

I'm considering buying one or the other, but would like to know what happens to these if the power goes out? I have my sagebox on a ups backup and would also put these on it as well, for surge protection if any thing else... My sagebox is set up to automatically boot up once power is restored, so how do the homerun and pvr act in this scenario?

I have read at least once that the hd pvr would need to be powered on manually, is that so? Couldn't find any info on the homerun...

Also if they both power up automatically once power is restored any other major idiosyncrasies one should know about them? Do they disappear as available tuners in sagetv until the computer is rebooted? Do they have to be powered on before the computer is powered on?

I already understand the problems with not getting encrypted qam on the homerun, as well as the hd pvr uses a cable/satellite box and so on.

Just concerned about issues surrounding power outages as that is the only thing I usually have issues with... also concerned about losing channels set to record after power resumes...

Thanks in advance...

I have an HDHR which is not on a UPS and it has been very reliable. I believe I had to reset it once in about 3 months of usage. So, except for that one time (which I don't know the reason it locked up), it has never needed to be reset due to power outages.

The HD-PVR, on the other hand, is quite different. I had many issues with mine and one of the steps I took to try and eliminate possible problem areas was to get a beefy APC UPS and plugged the HD-PVRs, STBs, and everything else into it.

If you plug everything into a UPS which has enough battery life to continue running for brief outages, you'll never miss a recording. That was my goal and it's worked quite well.

The HDHomeRun won't cause any problems because of a power outage. Obviously anything that is going at the time of the outage will stop, but so long as your router comes back up (to give the HDHomeRun an IP via DHCP) it'll come back online and be accessible.

I have my server and HDHOMERUN connected to a UPS as you described above.

I have lost power a few times, and with my battery backup, I didn't mis a single recording. There was also a few instances where power was out longer than my UPS could supply....In this scenario after power was restored, the server booted back up as well as the HDHOMERUN, and all was well.

I had an HDPVR previously and got so fed up with is that i just said forget it...Put that bad boy right on ebay.
