Mac Placeshifter is unable to connect

My Mac is unable to conect to SageTV 6.0 using SageTV Placeshifter -- I get "The SageTV Placeshifter is unable to connect to the specified SageTV Media Center Server"

However, I AM able to connect to the server using the same settings on a Windows machine running the Placeshifter software. And the same Mac can connect over the local network, just not over the Internet.

I've tried using the locator ID (It says Locator Found Server) and using the hostname-- same problem.

Help?
Thanks

OK, to clarify, both the windows and MACs can connect over the local network?

And the Windows machine can connect over the internet using Locator ID?

IF not, and you can only connect over the LAN, then it sounds like a router issue or not getting the correct IP address. Either from locator ID or a DDNS setup. Hostnames won't work over the internet.

edit. www.canyouseeme.org is a cool site that will test your open ports for you to see if port 31099 is open on your router and mapped to your Sage server correctly.

Yes.

<<And the Windows machine can connect over the internet using Locator ID?>>

Actually I tested Windows over the Internet using the dynamicDNS hostname, not locator ID.

OK.

IF a windows box can connect over the internet using DDNS, then we know that the router and Sage server is set up right for placeshifter access.

Now, why the MAC box can't, I dunno. Maybe try the IP address instead of having the placeshifter having to translate the DDNS name into an IP address? Just ping the DDNS name and see what the IP address is.

OK then, you got me then, I dunno.

Both windows and MAC can connect over the LAN, but only the Windows box can come in over the internet. Either it is a settings problem on the MAC or an issue with the MAC placeshifter in general, I dunno. DOn't have a MAC.

canyouseeme.org can see the service on the port I'm running it on. So that's good.

So it absolutely refused to work yesterday when I was at home, on the same network as the Sage server. Today, when I'm 1,000 miles away, it works. I didn't change anything.
