Why didn't you update to 6.4.8? That is the latest stable version.

Well there are a few STVi's that I have come to require that aren't supported by 6.4.8 yet.

Also there are some things with 6.4.8 I'm not sure I want to dive into yet.... And so far 6.3.10 is awesome. I found the issue with choppy video was simply the Java heap issue that is repeatedly mentioned here in the forums.

To each his own I guess...

Hello,

l have the same problem too. I convert all mpeg videos and DVD into mkv files (video codec : x264 and audio codec : AAC) with Handbrake. I crop video at maximum.
It works fine with my HD200 on 16:9 LCD TV, but with my MVP on 4:3 analog CRT TV videos are stretched. Directly on server, it's also stretched. I use latest version 6.6.2.4 of SageTV on Windows XP. Any idea ?
Thanks for your help.

Are you sure your aspect ratios are setup right?

My DVD's (whcih are left in their original MPEG2 format) play just fine on my CRT 4:3's. They aren't stretched or anything (black bars above and below the image, but that is expected).

Yes, aspect ratio is right. mpeg2 files works good, and the same files transcoded in mkv files with handbrake (x.264) are stretched.

Yep, I think I've been experiencing the same thing with MKVs for a while now. I talked about it a little in this thread:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43665

On my server/client with the AR set to 'Source' (connected to a 16:9 TV), I get pillar boxing and a squished picture. On my MVP (connected to my old 4:3 TV), I get a picture squished in from the sides that fills the screen. I haven't found a solution.

DVDs from which the MKVs were created play just as they should. And MKVs seem to play with the correct AR in all other media players I've tried. I originally thought this might be a problem with ffdshow, but the fact that the AR problem exists on the MVP kind of rules it out.

well, it rules out an ffdshow problem, but it doesn't rule out an ffmpeg problem (on which the decoder for ffdshow is based). Playing anything but SD MPEG2 on the MVP will cause it to be transcoded on the server using ffmpeg (SageTranscoder). If it is having problems detecting the aspect ration, then the resultant MPEG2 stream sent to the MVP will be incorrect.

True. But the problem is not just with playback on the MVP. Since I have the AR problem when playing these MKVs on my server/client, it seems to me that either the AR is not being flagged correctly by Handbrake or it is not being detected correctly by Sage. And I'm pretty sure it's not Handbrake because they play fine in every other media player I've tried.

Once again new to the sage product. But I was searching for MVP info as I have a couple of these sitting around and I am wanting to put one to use for my garage tv and came accross this thread. My questions are will the mvp play all the recorded formats including the h264 or what ever format sage calls from the hd-pvr's? It did not with bytv. So before I install my license I thought I would try and find out. If it does not play all, will it play over the air hd? I have tried doing some search's but all I can find are mostly old post.
Thanks
Wayne

The MVP can only playback SD MPEG2. However, when used as a sage extender, the SageTV Server will transcode any other formats into SD MPEG2 and stream that to the MVP. It does take a decent amount of processing power on the server to handle this without stuttering though.
