Audio problems with some codecs
Hi, I've had the HD200 now for a few months and love it. The only issue with it I seem to have is the lack of audio on some H264 video files with 5.1 audio. I can get the sound to work if I connect the optical cord, but not with hdmi or analog.
I'm currently using the latest non beta firmware for the unit. Any help would be appreciated. |

Do these files have DTS audio? The HD200 is not capable of decoding DTS audio itself, only pass-through.
My suggestion, if you don't mind transcoding the audio is to download eac3to and use it to convert the audio to AC3. If the files are MKV you could even have both audio tracks in the file and select the AC3 track as the default.

The files are Matroska H264 720P and audio is DCA@48kHZ 5.1.
As I stated they work fine when an optical connection is made to the receiver just not hdmi or analog, so I would think that the HD200 has no problem decoding it. |

That is your problem. DCA is DTS, Digital Cinema Audio. The HD200 cannot decode DTS but it it will pass it through optical or HDMI. If the HD200 is like the HD100 in order for it to pass through HDMI you need to select optical as your audio output. But you cannot get DTS audio through the analog out. You must transcode it to AC3 for that to be possible.

Ok so just so I understand you correctly, in order to get sound I need to have an optical connection. Or can I just keep the hdmi and change a menu setting?
Thanks for the prompt reply. |

In your audio menu I believe you need to set it to to SPDIF. Whether you use the HDMI or the optical.

Sorry maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find any menu that gives me the option to select spdif...I can only find one audio option and it's to choose analog, digital bitstream, or digital pcm.
Unfortuantely none of those options gives me sound. |

Digital bitstream is the one you want. You need something to decode the DTS so you need to run it through your receiver. Either over optical or HDMI.

What about the 2 channel from DVD rips. I get this scratchy noise on it. I'm using a reciever, and have tried both digital settings.
