Anyone have Hauppauge Colossus 1/2 working in a VM? What hardware?

For now I am up and running with two Colossus 2's in a win7 VM. Problem I cannot solve is that the VM cannot be shut down or rebooted in any way without bringing down the whole server, which then takes two attempts to restart. Those attempts trigger all kinds of warnings, parity checks, etc. So while it's working finally after 8 months of effort, I'm probably putting data at risk.

I have swapped out PSU, RAM, tuner cards, GPUs, drives, SATA cables, etc. Everything but the motherboard. If I have to go there, I'm just going to start over from scratch, so I thought I would start with known working configurations if that applies to anyone?

I had 3x colossus cards running in a 2012 server VM as well as a windows 8.1 VM since W7 has the every other day restarting issue.

As for needing to shut down your entire server to restart a VM, I'd say you have a bigger issue than getting the Colossus cards to work. I've used may different VMs and haven't ever had that issue.

Here is my setup:
- ASRock Rack EP2C602 motherboard
- 2 E5-2680 V2
- 64gb of ecc registered ram
- 48TB storage
- 4 Colossus 1's
- 1 Colossus 2
- 1 HVR-2255
- firewire card

I chose this motherboard since I wanted 7 PCIe/PCI expansion slots. If you don't need 7 expansion slots, there are other versions of this motherboard. They are still available new from Newegg.com.

This is running unRaid, Sage Docker, and the Colossus cards are running under Windows Server 2012 R2 in a VM.

It has been rock solid with the exception of a Colossus 1 that died recently and will be replaced with a Colossus 2. I doubt this is an unraid issue as I also had a Colossus die a few years ago running Sage 7.1.9 in Windows.

Nightly reboots was a must under Windows 7 but not so with unRaid.

Hope this helps.
