Google Testing "Mystery" Entertainment Device
Hmm. I wonder what this device Google employees are testing might be? Can't imagine they are actually building their own hardware device... or are they?
http://gigaom.com/2012/02/03/what-is...le-is-testing/ PS: No, I do not have any "insider" info - just sharing a story that made me wonder |

Let's hope that this "device" is what Narflex was referring to with his tease a couple weeks ago.

Mystery "entertainment device" being tested by Google.
http://gigaom.com/2012/02/03/what-is...le-is-testing/
This is pure conjecture on my part, but it sounds like Google is testing something akin to a Roku or Boxee for the home. Could this be the future of where SageTV is headed in the hands of Google? If it is, I sure hope that Google doesn't forget about Cable/Sat/OTA recording that many of us purchased SageTV for in the first place. I dislike the Roku/Boxee/all the other clones from various other manufacturers for the simple fact that many of those devices don't even support playing media from a NAS/Media server without going through hoops and hurdles, and only support for the most part, online streaming services which require subscriptions to get any of the "premium" stuff. Forget about even connecting to or controlling a PVR server with those devices. I loved the HD200/300 for the mere fact that it was the one device that could have served as the main entertainment hub for the TV without the need of any other device, and not simply an additional device to take up another input on the TV such as a VCR/DVD/Blu-ray player, like the Roku/Boxee/etc work as now. ![]() * mysteriously merged * |

![]() ![]() Also, the whole "navigate via head nodding" thing - nothing like making everyone look like they've got a nervous tic, or Tourette's, or something. John Smith asks guy with glasses why he's nodding his head so much.... Guy says "because there are 562 pages of John Smiths and I'm trying to find YOU." ![]()

I'm not convinced. How do HUD spex fit into the home entertainment picture, where I already have a couch and a big-screen TV? Sounds to me more like the spex are meant to be worn on the street as you move around town, not WiFi'd into your living room LAN.
I think we're looking at two different product concepts here.
