Great to hear from Jeff, I just hope that what he is producing does not get kiboshed by Google because it doesn't fit with their strategy for the future. Let's not forget that Google has thrown a lot of spaghetti on the wall in the last decade and not all of it has stuck.

How about an analogy.
Dinosaurs are "old" technology. No, Dinosaurs become extinct due to a massive meteor hitting the earth. Google is the meteor. Then I read Jeff's post. SageTV may end up the engine inside the also purchased Motorola boxes Last edited by davidjames; 01-12-2012 at 09:27 AM. |

I'm sure glad he threw us a bone. But I can't help agree that as you say, something else must be in play.
If they work on sage everyday and sage is not dead, then I don't understand why the store is still closed. Many people have already left because they cannot get hardware and/or client licenses. |

Taking what Jeff said literally, you could take it two ways...
What everyone seems to have concluded: 1. That they're working on improving the code of the SageTV software we've all come to know and love and incorporating Google's vision. Or, what it could also mean: 2. That they're working on a totally new set of code we've never seen, but is simply called SageTV, perhaps even simply being used as an internal codename.

Seems to me that everyone's easily pleased... you don't really think that Google are still allowing the old SageTV team to continue working on SageTV as it was... do you?
Just because Jeff posted a message doesn't mean anything is actually going to come of it. For all we know it could just be a research gig where Google let the old team run with their ideas and if anything takes their fancy they use it for another Google product. Let's be honest... SageTV as it was is dead... no more updates... no new versions and no new hardware. Or another way to put it.

I have no doubt that what Jeff posted was in good faith. Buy I doubt that he makes the final call on if or how this ever makes it into an end-product that we will see.

As I pointed out in the "comments" (aka doomsday) thread, it's not typical human behavior to have bad news and say "I wish I could tell you!"
If he was bound to silence and what he had to say was something that would anger everyone, he wouldn't WANT to tell us. He most likely wouldn't post at all. But his post said "Sage is not dead" and he said he really wants to tell us but we will have to wait. I find it a stretch to believe that this means anything other than "I think you're gonna like what I have to tell you." (disclaimer: as I also posted in the other thread, what we "like" and what he THINKS we'll like may not 100% jive, but I think he'd know whether what they're doing would be universally DISliked)

Well seeing how Jeff said it was not dead, then I would have to think we should have some hope. I think Jeff knows what we would interpret 'dead' to mean
