Will SageTV Support 3D playback and 3D->2D transcoding ?

Hello,

I currently am running a SageTV on my Windows 7 Server, and I have a HD200 media extender. I'm using a Colossus HD PVR for capture.

I am in the market for a 3D camcorder, I'm looking seriously at the Sony HDRTD30V.

The reason I'm thinking of investing now is that I see Philips coming out with some promising glasses-free 3D displays last year, so I would like to start capturing family memories in 3D so that they can be viewable in the future.

In the short term, however, I still have a 2D TV so will I be able to play a 3D video over Sage TV on my 2D TV?

I tried to search this forum, but the number of hits was overwhelming, expert advice recommended please.

If it's half resolution side by side, or over/under then you should be "fine" for playing it, but Sage won't be able to "convert" it to 2D. If it's frame sequential or frame packed (like Blu-ray) Sage can't handle those at all as far as I know.

I realize this is an old thread, but I thought others might stumble across it regarding 3D. I've been struggling with 3D Blu-ray playback for some time now and finally have it figured out. Both TotalMediaTheater (no longer sold or supported) and PowerDVD handle 3D playback poorly (and incorrectly, as far as I can tell), especially if you rip to MKVs. From what I've read, MakeMKV rips 3D content without compression or any other alterations, unlike other programs. Based on that thread, I can confirm that this Stereoscopic Player (39 euros) handles everything perfectly. I'm finally able to watch my 3D movies the way they were intended.
