Wrong Program Meta Data After Recording

About the middle of December my recordings of The Daily Shows started showing watched status and meta data from older recorded shows. That is to say that the program guide showed First-Run with the recording time and first aired date the same UNTIL SageTV recorded it. The guide AND program then had Rerun status with info from a 2 year old show. An example is The Daily Show I recorded this morning. It showed a First-Run with an Episode show ID of EP2930532464 and the ID attached to the file was 8041330-0.

I thought there was an issue with SageTV when they used the same Episode Show ID but the episode IDs looked different from 2 year old Daily show that it ďcopiedĒ the meta data from.

This particular incarnation of my Sage has been running since 2005 (had to reinstall in 2005 after a crash corrupted the disk and I hadnít initiated a backup strategy). The count of past airings of The Daily Show is 1489. This is only happening with this show.

Is my Wiz.bin corrupted?

This isn't much help but I have the exact same problem... with the same show... and only the Daily Show exhibits this issue. And this is probably moot, but I am also in the Bay Area (Redwood City).

My setup doesn't go back as far as yours, but it is at least 7 years old, and 989 items show up in past recordings for the Daily Show. I've only noticed this behavior in the past few weeks. But it is exactly as you describe: the show appears to be scheduled as a new recording, but as soon as it's recorded (possibly some time after), the metadata changes and represents a show about 2 years old. I've noticed though that the corrupt/wrong metadata shows "Original Air Date"s as consistently being 2 years old, and that the "wrong" metadata appears to move forward in time along with the current recordings. That is, it appears as though (for whatever reason), these episode ideas are being recycled. They do appear to be increasing from day to day. I don't know where episode id's come from. But some speculative reasoning on my part:
- It could be that at some point they (accidentally or intentionally) restarted the episode id counter from an episode id used 2 years ago
- Before recording, SageTV does not add metadata to its database, as this would be overzealous in case someone decides to cancel a recording. So it uses the metadata pulled from Zap2It (or whatever other service is providing EPG data)
- As soon as SageTV records an episode, it first looks for that episode id already present in the metadata; if it's already there then SageTV assumes that what's there is gospel, and discards the "new" information without comparing it to the one already indexed.

Again this is purely speculation that I devised in order to maybe explain what I've been seeing and the evidence I have so far; I have not looked at the source code or attempted to dig through any of Sage's databases.

Maybe we can compare metadata. My last three recordings of the Daily Show (looks like I'm missing Monday's of this week but I may have deleted it):
1/14/2015: EP2930532468 shows up as "Original Air Date: Monday, January 21, 2013 Season 18, Episode 47 / Sonia Sotomayor"
1/13/2015: EP2930532467 shows up as "Original Air Date: Thursday, January 17, 2013 Season 18, Episode 46 / Lena Dunham"
1/8/2015: EP2930532465 shows up as "Original Air Date: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 Season 18, Episode 44 / Bob Scheiffer"

None of these recordings were reruns. Let me know if yours line up with mine.

I'll post back if I figure anything out.

Misery loves company.

1/8/2015: EP2930532465 shows up as "Original Air Date: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 Season 18, Episode 44 / Bob Scheiffer"
1/12/2015: EP2930532466 shows up as "Original Air Date: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 Season 18, Episode 45 / Jessica Chastain"

**1/13/2015: EP2930532467 shows up as "Original Air Date: Tuesday, January 13, 2015 Season 18, Episode 46 / Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)Ē**
**1/14/2015: EP2930532468 shows up as "Original Air Date: Monday, January 14, 2015 Season 18, Episode 47 / Julianne Moore"**

1/15/2015: EP2930532469 shows up as "Original Air Date: Tuesday, January 22, 2013 Season 18, Episode 48 / Sienna Miller"
1/19/2015: EP2930532470 shows up as "Original Air Date: Wednesday, January 23, 2013 Season 18, Episode 49 / Missy Cummings"

*** I deleted the properties files for these two files and ran the BMT Metadata Scan on the morning of 1/15/2015 and it fixed the metadata for those two files (the only ones that I hadnít already deleted).

I tried the same technique this morning on just the show recorded 1/19 and it didnít work. I thought it was a corrupted Wiz.bin. Iím leaning more on a scraper problem. None of the episode IDs match previous Daily Shows.

As for just re-installing an older Wiz.bin, Iím not confident that will fix our problem.

I saw a thread, somewhere that showed how to fully uninstall/install the Phoenix core stuff. Iím going to try that.

Sounds like you all have BMT installed on your systems and it's "helping" you all out by updating the metadata, albeit incorrectly (though not really its fault).

Quick eyeball scan tells me the episodes you're quoting are "repeats" (i.e. the same guest). BMT is confusing the new episode with an older one with the same guest in the subtitle and then updating the metadata accordingly. Talk shows (especially The Daily Show because it typically just uses the guest's name as the subtitle) are susceptible to this.

There is an option in BMT somewhere that tells it not to update existing metadata for recordings. I enabled that long ago and don't have any such problems. Instead BMT only updates empty fields when it thinks it finds metadata.

The "fix" (maybe not the best, but would at least solve this scenario) would be for BMT to search it's findings in reverse order (newest to oldest) iff the recording is a first run.

Within Phoenix Core Services, I already had the following settings.

Automatic Fanart/Metadata True
Preserve Original Metadata for Recordings True
Fill in Missing Metadata for Recordings True

Today I changed the Auto to False and will look at the results tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'll cycle thru the permutations of those other values and note what happens.

Update: Looked at my recordings just before noon today (after setting the Automatic to False) and my next Daily Show recording from 11:00pm Thursday night survived to show First-Run. Granted, it now doesn't have the guest info but that wasn't in the Zap2it/Sage guide either.

I now have several Daily Show episodes that show First-Run status after turning off Automatic Fanart/Metadata. I'm going keep these episodes and turn the Auto back on Wednesday or Thursday morning to see what it does to the past recordings and what happens to the Wednesday and Thursday night recordings.

Thanks for mentioning this Slugger. This fixed my issues with the DS

Figured it out! Zap2it guide says it's broadcasting season 18 instead of season 20. So BMT is pulling info from that particular episode from that old season.

So no fix to the underlying issue, other than hoping the Zip2it fixes its error?

Back in Oct 2013 I sent zap2it an email complaining that they kept putting the wrong west coast broadcast time for CNN's Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown. It took a week but it finally got fixed.

I sent them another email last Friday for this problem. We'll see.
