Glad you're getting the practice, sic0048! That "How To" should be quite valuable.

But I'm sorry you're having trouble. I had problems with the sound getting out of sync when recording with ArcSoft and playing back with VLC, or when the HD PVR crashed in mid-recording (possibly due to overheating) but so far I haven't had that trouble with recordings made by SageTV. Knock on wood.

I will definitely keep those older drivers in mind. Keep us posted as to how they work for you on your newer machine.

Now that I've gotten the bugs ironed out and have been using SageTV and the HD PVR for a few days, I just want to say that the combination is awesome!

It is fabulous to be able to set up recordings and access them from either my living room or my bedroom (using SageTV Client). I love being able to just set up a Favorite and forget about it, and come back later and watch it any time I want. Or peruse the listings, pick out some shows, and set them to record so I can watch them later. Also being able to pause and resume live TV - which then allows skipping commercials - is great.

I know all this stuff is old hat to people who've been using SageTV - or TiVo - for a while, but for someone like me, who for years has had to tune both the sat box and a crappy old DVD recorder for each program I want to record, and then juggle stacks of DVD's, it's wonderful.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions and helped me get to this point!
