Unhappy Server dead

Hm, the box won't start anymore. I can see a green light in one corner of the motherboard. When I hit the button the fans start up for like half a second. No sound whatsoever.

Same with a new PSU.

Any idea what I should be looking at next?

Do you have a bunch of HDDs? Try unhooking most/all of them (completely).

My suggestion would be to disconnect all drives, add-in cards, and USB devices, leaving just CPU, RAM, and graphics. Then see if you can boot into the BIOS with just that. If not, try swapping out RAM and/or graphics if possible (maybe you can borrow parts from another machine).

If the BIOS comes up, try adding back a floppy drive and booting from that. Then hard disk, and so on, one device at a time, until you run into problems.

It appears the PSU is detecting a short.

Take the system down to bare bones (MB, CPU, Mem, Video, w/display connected) and try again.

If you've replaced the PSU then it's likely one of the bare-bones items.
If it boots to CMOS, then add the peripherals back until you find the bad girl (since electronic parts denoted as female).

I have tried booting with the new PSU and just the essentials. No change.

I took it to a shop this afternoon The first thing the guy did was testing the old PSU. He noticed that - while it was still producing enough juice - that the PSU fan was no longer working.
He think it's the motherboard, if not more. He recommended some Intel Mini ATX.

Any recommendations for a LGA 775 board?
