MP4 playback stutters after upgrade from 6.4 to 6.6

I recently performed an upgrade from 6.4 to 6.6 (details in sig below). Sometime after this upgrade I noticed that my MPEG4 videos (H264) were stuttering badly on audio and video, and throwing up full-screen green frames randomly. I spent hours trying different video arrangements under Setup -> Video / Audio, but can't find one that works well for everything. I found one setup that allowed me to watch the MP4's perfectly, but then my recorded shows would only show in 'source' and not 'fill.

Currently:
Video Renderer: VMR9
MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: SageTV MPEG
SageTV MPEG Video... DXVA: Yes
MPEG4 Playback: DirectShow
H.264 Video Decoder Filter: Default
.. and default for all else.

If I change to:
MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: Default
or
MPEG4 Playback: SageTV Player

then the MP4's will continue to stutter, and so will any AVIs (most DIVX).

This was all working perfectly, but now I'm stuck. I can't find a good setting to let ALL videos work fine. As it is now, some will, others won't. If I muck with the settings, then the roles reverse and different types of videos work and others don't.

Anywhere I can start to get this resolved? Very tempted just to upgrade to 7 beta to see if that helps.

Update: After a few more days of troubleshooting, I was getting nowhere. Tonight I purchased the upgrade to Sage 7 and installed Beta 10, and was still having issues. I went into the setup and changed everything back to the defaults, and everything works perfect now. I can play all video formats fine
