I'm still learning but, AFIAK, yes it will allow playing back a file while you are recording it. It will also let you timeshift, ie playback from a not live point in the recording. It won't yet allow playing of a file other than the current recording (during a recoriding).

Doh!
I would prefer it be able to play a completely different file than is recording, but if it can time shift the current recording I guess that is better than nothing. Are you using the DVI Daughter card? How are your two outputs connected to your TV? Thanks, John |

Also where did you buy the MDP-130?

I bought mind from Digital Connection. The Daughter card isn't available for the 130 yet, I'll probably get one when I get my PJ, but I don't have a display with DVI yet so it's no biggie. From what I've heard, the 130's are on BO for a while, til March some time. They pressured MIT to put out a few early shipments if I read correctly, I think I got mine from the second shipment. Good news is you should get a USB remote reciever instead of the Serial one now.

Oh, and while I haven't been following it, I think there are plans to enable play something while something else is recording in the future (not 100% on that one though).

So are you using the VGA out and VGA pass thru for your HD Set?

Yup, my TV has RGBHV inputs. I just stuck the MyHD between the VC and the TV.

For what it's worth, I just purchased one of the Buffalo Tech HDTV/DVD devices from Amazon last night, so I'll post my thoughts of it when it arrives, probably sometime next week or the following.
It looks interesting enough and cheap enough that it's worth playing around with, I'll be using it with the wired option (instead of wireless).

What would be REALLY nice is if you wouldn't mind scanning in the owner's manual for it (if it isn't too big that is). I would like to read it before I buy it, and Buffalo didn't put that in the downloads seciton of their website...
I am 99% sure I want one of these. Specifically for divx playback support, but I have a ton of WMV files too - so that support would be GREAT as well. Jason Bottjen Quote:

Glad to hear that someone has gone for the Buffalo already.
A couple of big questions. What kind of audio and video outputs does it have? What does the agent tat runs on your computer do? Does it always have to be on for the device to work? Lastly, if you have a non-buffalo NAS device on your network, can the buffalo connect directly to it, or does it have to connect through the PC agent, meaning files have to travel accross the network, through the PC (like a mediamvp) and then to the Buffalo instead of just going directly (which the Roku supports??) Thanks |

If you've got DVDs looking good, you're there pretty much. NTSC TV will always need help on an HDTV. If you're not satisfied with TV after getting your PC setup to play DVDs well, and making sure your capture settings are optimal, then you need to look into fixing the source (reducing splits, adding an amp) or finding a new on (going to a different provider).

I'll update everyone once I get it and check it out (specs, manual, etc). Right now I don't have any information more than anyone else does, I just have $300 less now! I think it looks cool, so I figured it was worth gambling on. When I do pick it up, I'll start a new thread specificially about it (since this is the ROKU thread) - I originally wanted to get a ROKU, but Fry's was all out of them and then I caught this post, so we'll see...

I'm running three DirecTv boxes directly into three PVR 250's via s-video. I don't think you can get a cleaner source.
What I really need is for Sage to support HDTV and Exclusive full screen Direct3d mode with renderless VMR9. Until this happens I continue to look for other ways to playback video on the big screen. HC Last edited by hchucky; 02-27-2005 at 10:24 PM. |

Try these drivers and set the overlay to its highest settings and run the display optimization wizard from the "tools" section. The best PQ increase that I have had so far.
Im running a FX5200 and am very happy with my overlay settings. I can only imagine the PQ from a 6600GT! EDIT: Im running the latest Nvidia NVDVD version with this driver (.67 I believe) http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1002 extreme G 75.90 in google should get you there as well... GL I. From my system and from the configuration on the device.
Here's a pic of the video config screen. Last edited by Cayars; 03-02-2005 at 02:43 PM. |

Cayars,
They really should update the spec sheet on it since it appears to support HD Output. Does it support HD Video Playback? Just because the display does 720P and 1080i output does not mean it has the ability to playback HD video files. In fact it looks like it will convert files to its own format. The section described above may refer to the resolution of the input video files. My XCard supports 1080i and 720P but it will not play back HD resolution video files, but it will scale standard resolution to HD resolution. John |
