i highly doubt we'll see studio but here's hoping 3.0 adds cd playback at least.

Originally they said it would be included with the release of 2.0. Studio would be nice to have, but I've pretty much given up on getting it. SageTV is a good product without studio and as long as Nielm keeps pumping out slick modules, I'm happy. |

i'm really quite happy with sage. if i had an order of importance for things i want added it would be this:
1. cd playback 2. hdtv card support 3. full screen exclusive vmr9 although where #3 is concerned i have thought about switching back to an ati card to curb that problem. native mvp is nice but i'd much rather have a thin client that is actually worth a darn. the mvp is kinda lousy. |

I would like to add some remarks from someone living outside the US about SageTV (hope my english is passable) :
I'm involved in http://www.homemedia.fr, a website dedicated to all medias connected at home (htpc, media center...) and in march we released a 30 pages mediacenter roundup (myhtpc, meedio, xlobby, geexbox, windows MCE, mediaportal and sageTV). you can get it here I assume almost no one speaks french so I sum up the conclusion for you : Although SageTV is my favorite one's it didn't win. Why ? 1. Only the lucky guys owning Studio can customize and add plugins to SageTV...What for ? I can understand that Microsoft prefers keeping its code secret as it sells MCE as a whole product (soft+hard) through OEMs, but Frey is not Microsoft. 2. SageTV is the only one without a french speaking dedicated website. I think it's the same for most of european countries. French translation began in january 2005. It's not only a matter of language, but for example you can get on french meedio website lots of plugins/supports which help you to fix local issues (e.g. about xmltv grabber...) in spite of meedio is not free like xlobby or mediaportal (maybe meedio relies too much on external plugins makers...). SageTV is designed by, and maybe too much, for american people. Why doesn't Frey look after european partners as meedio did with Wska ? 3. what about cd playback (it's a pity sageTV is able to read music formats only on hdd) Be careful, I've pointed out the main SageTV drawbacks, but I use it daily as a PVR + DVD player (the very best in my opinion), and I won't change it. But I will include it in Meedio (with meediosage, thanks to mostlyfodder !) which gives additional functionalities. Last edited by leo; 04-21-2005 at 05:44 AM. |

Is anyone really expecting any jaw dropping changes? From the sounds of it the biggest change is going to be linux support, which we end users wont really see unless we buy a prebuilt box. I for one have no interest in the other *BIG* one which is a Frey MVP plugin. If existing STVs are going to work then I'd assume that means the GUI hasn't changed too much either. Am I just missing something here?

I am almost done converting my entire 1000+ dvd collection to a mixture of Nero ASP and AVC and love Sage as a front-end. I'd hate to lose this functionality!

Guys, I can't believe what I'm hearing. First we bitch and moan about no developement from Frey. Then we start to bitch and moan about the possibility that they might totally 'revamp' Sage only they better not change anything to do it? WTF?
Simple concept - Jeff/Dan, bring on a totally new Sage (with customization features comparable to the competition if not better), who cares if our 2.x .stv's are broken. That's life. If it's better to change the core now, DO IT! We will recover from the pain! I remember working for MS awhile ago and always seeing people talk about how the move from Windows x.x to Windows x.x sucks because look at how bloated the OS is. Well, not one person was able to describe a way to add features WITHOUT adding code! In the same light, Sage MUST CHANGE! That's is the only way it can possibly improve. We just need to collectively stop whining about it and let the developement to do what they do best. -PGPfan |

I've got my fingers crossed for full MCE Remote support (WM_INPUT in specific), so that I can finally stop using Girder.
