Did you ever find the problem with that sample file I uploaded to your ftp site? I was hoping that would be enough to squash the bug.

I haven't had a chance to get to it yet. I'm trying to get SA in a release-able state first.

I just sent you one of the files that will not find any commercials. Let me know if it works for you, or if you have to do something special to make it work. For the most part it seems to be working about 85% of the time. It reads the entire file on every show, but some shows (like the one I sent you) will not find any commercials.

Thanks again,
Chad

I've been running SA for awhile now and it's pretty accurate on most shows, but I'd like to tweak it for a few particular shows. Is there an idiot's guide anywhere detailing what each setting does and how to determine which settings need adjusting and if the values need to be raised or lowered? Or is it all just trial and error?

Finally, 0.6.0 is actually out. I would give a list of fixes, but this is an almost complete rewrite. Many bugs have been fixed. I'm sure some bugs have been created. Give it a shot and if you find a bug, let me know!

Enjoy,
Jere

Could you answer a couple questions?

Does it work on program streams, or transport streams?

thanks,

I also see it creates a new file by default (.edl files).. is that something I need to keep, it isn't something I had seen or selected previously... What is it for?

Excellent. It now seems to be catching 85-90% of the commercials in a 30min show. It looks like SA doesn't like several of my recordings of 24 on A&E, it starts to process the file then closes leaving a dead taskbar icon that goes away after moving my mouse over it. I'm going to test a few other 60 min shows and see the output. It looks like I'll have to tweak my settings to get ~99% success rate. Is there a guide to using School House to teach SA?

Just finished processing another 60 min show. It looks like another 85-90% success rate. Looks like the 24 recordings are problematic. I'm going to clear all my previous txt files and test against tweaked settings. if you would like i can send you the file (1.5GB mpeg2) for you to look at.

See the below DirMon output for the 24 process:

Code:
Ensuring C:/Converted Media/24-1000PM1100PM-4219-0.mpg still exists.
Verifying the that C:/Converted Media/24-1000PM1100PM-4219-0.mpg should still be processed.
Tue Jan 10 23:32:24 2006: Attempting to execute the following command:
	"C:\Program Files\Dragon Global\ShowAnalyzer\ShowAnalyzer.exe" "C:/Converted Media/24-1000PM1100PM-4219-0.mpg"
Tue Jan 10 23:32:24 2006: Waiting for processor to finish.
Tue Jan 10 23:33:32 2006: Processor Done.
Ensuring C:/Converted Media/24-1000PM1100PM-4219-0.mpg still exists.
Verifying the that C:/Converted Media/24-1000PM1100PM-4219-0.mpg should still be processed.
Nope. It's done. Not processing.
Ensuring C:/Converted Media/TheColbertReport-9413-0.mpg still exists.
Also I have SA setup to output a videoredo project file. For the above file it never creates the project file.

It only works on program streams. However, if it is sent a transport stream, it will create a txt file and exit so it won't get processed over, and over, and over...

edl files are "Edit Decision Lists" for use with MPlayer. They have the distinct advantage over .txt files in that they use times, not frame numbers. Hence no need to set up the framerate within the program that uses them. It is GB-PVR's prefered format and I'm hoping to add support to Sage for them.

And you can always uncheck it if you want.

This feature works beautifully, but I have a request . Could you possibly have SA drop another dummy file that we could key Dirmon to fire off the comskip_ts with (until you get TS decoding set up anyway). Say make a *.tsx file or something like that? If you could actually make it to where SA checks the recording, checks it's rules (if it's a recording on a channel that you have told SA not to check, say HBO), and if it's a TS from a channel that is supposed to be comskipped, drop that file, otherwise just drop the 0-byte .txt file?

Blah, that does me little good now that pretty much everything I record is a TS file.

Is TS support on the list for a future version?

Jason

The latest beta of Sage changes HDTV recording to use program streams:

Quote:
Core Updates

1. Changed default DTV recording type to be program stream. It can be changed back to transport stream with the property: mmc/encode_digital_tv_as_program_stream=false
So maybe Jere doesn't need to focus on TS support.

Yes, I just updated to get this change and SA seems to run fine on the resulting PS files.

This does absolutely nothing if you're using a HD cable box via firewire...

I guess I could always go and set it up the old way, and make the filters convert the HD content to mpeg, but at the cost of too much CPU on my poor P4 1.4.

Jere can you comment on my post http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...1&postcount=22 regarding Aspect Ratio Detection for use with Neilm's automatic aspect ratio switcher.
It might be another feature to add to your portfolio. You could probably add it to SA, but I'd think you would want it to create an output file for every recording including those on the exclude list.

Thanks for helping make our viewing experience so much better.
