any one here using a plextor convertx along with the new beta ? The new beta seems really unstable when convertx is being used for recording. It actually destroyed my entire previous instalation, I reinstalled windows and started afresh and still get random crashes when sage uses the convertx. I then deleted convetex as an encoder ( its still plugged in , sage doesnt use it) and things seem stable..for the last 12 or so hrs atleast.
Any one have similar experiences ?
config:
athlon xp2000
MSI nforce 2 delta-ilsr
2x pvr 150
1x pvr USB2
1x plextor convertx 402u
250gb maxtor with 1x 10gb windows partion and 240gb video partition (64k blocks)
2x 250gb hitachi in a raid 0 set up for video (64k blocks)
matrox g450
win xp pro/sp2

set up ran stable for 9 months or so on the 2.2 release..atleast mostly had some issues with moving recordings to sagetv archive.

It was as if it thought it was a 3.03 installer not one for a newer version. Niether Modify nor Repair worked (unable to connect to the server after) and I had to uninstall and do a fresh install.

Also, after upgrading the server Sage lost my 2nd of 3 tuners (all PVR250's) I am waiting for a show to finish recording to try and find out how to add it back. It is not listed at all as a configurable source so I can't just go into setup and reconfigure it.
This is annoying. I'm just getting around to switching from 3.03 to 3.05 and I'm getting the same thing on my clients. Guess I'll have to completely reinstall SageClient.

I have been using my Plextor ConvertX with the beta & haven't had stability issues. Is your Plextor driver up to date? If so, maybe my driver isn't up to date. (Of course, if you are having problems with things that used to work, don't forget to submit bugs...)

If the v3.0.5 installer isn't working properly over a v3.0.3 installation, just run the uninstall for the previous version before installing the newer one -- that's really all the installer does on its own when the upgrade works correctly. You don't have to delete the dir or any of the files after running the uninstaller. (As usual, don't forget to make backups before a beta upgrade installation.)

That's what I did on one of my clients. After uninstalling and installing 3.05, all of my settings were gone. Had to rebind all of the keys for my remote and choose my decoders again.

Oh...I see the problem with losing my settings. The 3.05 client installs into program files\sagetv instead of program files\frey technologies. I'm going to uninsall again and copy my old files to the new location and reinstall. I would just copy my properties over, but I don't know if 3.05 adds anything.

turak: oh yeah, the default installation dir is different now that the company name has changed. I still give the installer the old dir since my properties file is set up to use some dirs/files at that location. If your install dir has now changed, don't forget to check that your old properties file isn't looking for anything from the old location.

zinkpig: I don't believe I ever installed a new ConvertX driver, so it could be interesting to see what your results are.

Someone asked earlier if the HDTV recording via firewire worked in 3.0.5. I can report that it is working on my installation fine. I am using the UNE (SGraphRecorder) method.

I had it working fine in 2.2.8. All I had to do was to copy the lines from my previous sage.properties...

mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/available_channels=
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/brightness=130
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/contrast=135
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/device_name=
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/hue=125
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/last_channel=811
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/provider_id=812110018
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/saturation=105
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/sharpness=170
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/tuning_mode=
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/tuning_plugin=
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/tuning_plugin_port=0
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/video_crossbar_index=0
mmc/encoders/12345/1/0/video_crossbar_type=10
mmc/encoders/12345/audio_capture_device_name=
mmc/encoders/12345/audio_capture_device_num=0
mmc/encoders/12345/audio_processor=
mmc/encoders/12345/capture_config=
mmc/encoders/12345/default_device_quality=DVD Standard Play
mmc/encoders/12345/encoder_merit=0
mmc/encoders/12345/encoding_host=localhost\:6969
mmc/encoders/12345/last_cross_index=0
mmc/encoders/12345/last_cross_type=10
mmc/encoders/12345/live_audio_input=
mmc/encoders/12345/multicast_host=
mmc/encoders/12345/never_stop_encoding=false
mmc/encoders/12345/video_capture_device_name=SGR
mmc/encoders/12345/video_capture_device_num=0
mmc/encoders/12345/video_encoding_params=DVD Standard Play
mmc/encoders/12345/video_processor=

Then I launched SageTV 3.0.5. It was a little tricky, because 3.0.5 wanted to do some funkyness with the audio - like it wanted to know what audio source I wanted to load - even though UNE doesn't require an audio source - it's part of the stream. I just had to reset up the channels again for the UNE capture device. I could probably write up more details, but it was pretty straight forward. Playback works fine and live viewing was working pretty good too. Smooth playback. The control of my Moto STB over the firewire was still working too.

Only problem I have found is a "me too" problem - that switching between window mode and Full Screen mode causes problems. Full Screen to window works ok though -- edit: on second though No it doesn't. Full to window causes freeze (with the sagetv exe still running at 15-25% util) I can solve the problem of window to fill) by reloading the video thinger in the "Video" setup menu. Maybe there could be code added to reload the video drivers on each mode change. I think that would fix the problem I'm seeing.

The external tuner plugin worked fine as soon as I copied the external tuner dll into the Sage folder.

So the only complaint I have so far is the full screen toggle deal. I used to use that quite a bit so that will be a hard habbit to break until it is fixed. Anyway, playback and recording are working great! Nice work.

I'm not sure what I'm gaining with version three though. I like the numeric/text input thing. Removes my dependence on the keyboard - the entry of text before was too tedious for me.

sound problems:
whenever I change a channel the volume jumps up to max each time. very annoying.
I'm going to go through trying all my sound codecs and see if it's only certain ones.
also when viewing movies stored on my hard drive only power dvd sound codec works, nothing else does, sage, sonic, for example won't work. the video plays but no sound. I installed power dvd today and can use it's codecs fine.
weird

The built-in Canadian EPG should be working, so file a bug report if there are still isssues with it.

The fact is the last time I used the beta, The built-in Canadian EPG was OOS. My 2.8 sage is so rock solid I worry about moving again to 3.0 sage beta only to see a broken built-in Canadian EPG

the only reason I would put up with beta testing at all is
1)The built-in Canadian EPG
2)HDTV support <===== waiting on newegg for my card

Thanks for the reply. Will file a bug report if EPG is still OSS

Fluffdaddy the non-beta kind of guy

Question Play Tivo Files

I am using Beta 3.0.5, and have been trying to play my Tivo files using this verison.

To date when I attempt to play the file, Sage will crash and shutdown. Has anyone else gotten Tivo files to play in Sage? If so how?

I do have Tivotogo on the same PC has my SageTV install.

Thanks
Gary
