Not sure about Sage(TV) itself. Sorry about that.

Well I guess I'll find out when I actually purchase Sage.
With BTV, I didn't have any problems, so I'll keep my fingers crossed... |

If Sage did give you a problem I would try the regmon from www.sysinternals.com and spend a few extra minutes to GET it to work rather than going to BTV. I have both but IMHO think Sage would be worth the extra effort.

I report back my findings, later today.
That is if this new hardware, I ordered, comes in sooner than later. |

Ok. Hardware is here, and partially assembled.
I bought SageTV (so I'm no longer evaluating ) I installed Sage via the admin account, and all is good there. Trying to run it from a limited account gives me -> Quote:
Is this a "Limited User" problem, or am I doing something wrong.... Thanks |

Did you try running regmon?
When I have to get a program to work inside a limited user account I open Regmon, filter to display only access denied, start capture, then open up the program in question and stop capture. This will give you a list of the offending registry keys that the Limited account can not access. then give the limited account permission to that key. Move down the list and repeat the process. SageClient worked for me with no problem. As soon as I have a block of time with no recording on my SageTV machine, I will logon with a limited account and if I get the same error message I will try regmon to see if it will work.

Im not sure if this is a windows issue.
But I'll try regmon, and see if I can get this fixed up... |

After a couple tries of getting regmon to even work in a limited account,
Im giving up. I tried giving the limited domain user load/unload driver & debug priveledges, but regmon gives an error and doesn't load. I tried running regmon from an admin account (where it loads successfully), and tried filtering the list to see what Sage was doing. I then tried modifiying the permissions on various registry data & files (from what I saw via regmon) to see if Sage would work in a limited user account, and still no dice. At this point, Im going to try -> 1. Attempt to install Sage via a limited account 2. Get official support from Sage |

Got this working last night after pratting around with regmon and a bit of trial and error.
Running Regmon during SageTV client startup from an admin account showed access to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Licenses and the client won't startup without Full Control of this key granted to the limited account. Currently appears to require rights to the above key, the Frey Technologies key and modify rights to the SageTV directory. I'd call that a bug! |

I tried messing around with that reg key myself.
I only set it for read access, but that didn't work. Im going to try what you did to see what I can come up with... |

This is what I did -> 1. Modify HKLM/SOFTWARE/Frey Technologies, permissions, add "Authenticated Users", and give the group full control rights of the key 2. Modify HKLM/SOFTWARE/Licenses, permissions, add "Authenticated Users", and give the group full control rights of the key 3. Add "Authenticated Users" to the C:\Program Files\SageTV, and give the group modify rights to the folder For those trying to duplicate this, you dont have to specify a group, but a specific user if need be. But in my situation, I prefer a group. Kudos Mark, for the find... Last edited by trini0; 03-26-2006 at 06:35 PM. |

Be aware, that I ran into problems with these modifications.
For example, Sage not waking the PC to record shows. I got so frustrated with it, that I reverted all the changes back to the original state, and had to run Sage under a user under either the Power Users or Administrators group. I still do not understand why BeyondTV is able to run under a limited account, and Sage isn't able to...

This is running on Server 2K3 which never sleeps. I will keep an eye on scheduled recordings though.
