TV Tuner Suggestions

Right now I am using 2 Hauppauge USB2 pvr's with Sage TV and I am not that impressed with them. I have had trouble with garbled recordings and sometimes the USB devices go to "sleep" and miss recordings.

With that said, I am looking at replacing them with a more reliable tuner. I like the Hauppauge PVR-500 because I can record two channels at once but I am not sure if I sure use two PCI tuners for higher quality or if the PVR-500 is a better choice.

Please not that I am recording Digital cable but HD.

TIA,

Ausm

I'm not sure I understand your last statement but if you are recording HD then no wonder you're not impressed. Neither the USB2 or the PVR500 are designed to record HD. They are for recording SD. (standard definition)

I would also look into changing the USB2 controller -- I have 2 PVR-USB2 devices & have had no problems with either one. I think I've heard of others who had problems that were solved by using a different USB2 implementation, such as adding a new USB2 PCI card.

I'm not sure what would make them go to 'sleep', though... unless there is some sort of USB2 option to turn devices off, or unless the system itself is going into standby & not waking properly.

No problems with my Hauppauge USB2.

PC does not hibernate or sleep.
Hauppauge runs on a USB2 PCI board all by itself - no other competing devices
standard def TV

May be overkill, but USB controllers are cheap

Will WinTV-PVR-USB2 MCE work with SageTV?

I was wondering if the WinTV-PVR-USB2 PVR Media Center Edition would work with SageTV? CompUSA is selling it for $99.99 after rebates and it looks like a deal! Can anyone confirm on that, please?

It should. AFAIK, the only difference in MCE editions is that they must have a remote, FM capability, and IR blasters.

AFAIK, the PVR-500 uses the same components as the single tuner SD models, so quality should be the same.
