I agree. Makes me wonder where most people work.

I think the value for the place shifter for music streaming and the occasional update to some favorite or adding a recording that you may find out about.

I can see someone who travels keeping up using it too, though I've never been able to watch compressed streams in the 3"x5" postage stamp that is required to make it look good.

Another good functionality would be if it allowed control over another client (and would run on a PPC).

My workplace is *very* liberal, I can surf the net, download, listen to my MP3 player, use the webserver (or placeshifter should I set it up) to schedule recordings. But if I used the bandwidth for music or video, when I can bring music with me...well, I think I would be justifiably told off!

But this would be a tiny bandwidth compared to music!

The ability for Sage to run without stuttering when music imports exceed 1TB of files (mp3, wma, etc)...

I've been whining about this for a while now. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 TB of WMA's. So far I have only loaded about 500 GB onto my Sage server and I can't scroll through a 10th of them before Sage locks up hard. I can tell when it's starting to have trouble when I start seeing the spinning sage logo after a Page Down. The spinning logo stays longer and longer after each subsequent Page Down until it stops responding altogether.

Sage is aware of the many, many requests for Media Center improvements and, I believe, will start addressing them soon. So, some good news at least.

I'd like it to have a more distributed network architecture, so that I could pull up the skin on my Fujitsu 3400 tablet PC remote and kick off a show on another PC that's rendering it to my plasma.

Without using the webserver plugin.

Channel number in the video's file name. Then ShowAnalyzer can exclude them without installing the Webservices STVi.

For me its simple.

1) I need a better music system (J River integration would be nice)
2) a way to import formated meta-data into my wiz.bin for imported media (xml based would be fine).

1) Amen! change the black box approach to the wiz.bin file and let us modify it. That would be great for imported videos and for those of us that have lost or corrupted our wiz.bin

2) a real music function

3) ability to adjust intelligent recording (like being able to add a do-not-record)

Itunes integration to play encrypted AAC files seemlessly through SageTV (to include Media Extenders).

Ability to use the MVP as a Placeshifter client....just plug it into your hotel room broadband (or via wireless accesspoint if it is the wireless MVP)...it gets IP via DHCP and connects to your sageTV at home. Sweet! No PC required.

The MVP is an MPEG2 hardware decoder. I assume placeshifter transcodes to a much more efficient codec to stream across the net. Unless the extender can decode the compression method placeshifter is using I don't see it being possible. If you could turn down the bitrate enough to stream mpeg2 it would be a very poor quality feed.

Well seems like the next extender verions (non MVP) for HD will support more than MPEG2 only. Would be nice to see it in those products.

Something that has always bugged me is a problem with favorites. In the off season, you can't set a favorite for "first runs only" if there is not a "first run" of that program in the currently downloaded program guide. Why do I care if there is not a new episode coming on this week or next, I want it to record a new episode in the fall. Really frustraiting.
