An Official SageTV Client For Xbox360?

How feasible or possible would it be for Sage to release SageTV Client for the Xbox360? I would think it would be very expensive for Sage to do this..huh?

This is pretty funny. MSFT will never allow Sage to build software tha runs on the 360 without their permission, and since they are putting huge resources behind a competing product, I doubt Sage could ever get permission.

This is not a Sage issue, it's MSFT issue. The 360 is hardly an open platform.

Thanks,
Mike

I assumed there would be cost in developing for any console.. I did not know however that Microsoft would deny a company (in most cases) from developing software for their hardware. Then again.. isn't this how Microsoft always operated?... they find a small company that does something better than them... acquire them and call the work their own? Sage Media Center brought to you by Microsoft :-P

I can see it now. Go to Walmart and in the XBox 360 section, on the shelf next to Halo 3 sits a box containing something called SageTV Client.

Sounds crazy, but would be cool if there were any way to pull it off (I doubt it ever could though)...

I really doubt they'd deny SageTV to build an app. However I suspect that the cost for the Xbox Development Kit would far surpass the return Sage would get on that investment.

Its possible for a modded Xbox, not Xbox360. How? Its what Roofus is trying to do.

What if they just developed an MVP client for the 360 that downloads the firmware? This would open it up to all of the other PVR software out there using the MVP and Hauppauge. Then they can work on the HD media extender client, like the maybe buffalo client, so those users can have it also. The 360 has a DVD player built in.

Who is "they"? Developing an app for the 360 that downloads an image at runtime would be just as hard as building a full-up client.

I was talking about SAGE writting the client for the 360. The point I was trying to make is why write a SAGE client that will only work with thier server. If they write an MVP/extender cleint for the 360 it could be used and purchased by more users for other then SAGE use, then maybe the cost to develope it could be justified. Make the client more universal and not resticted to one use. Like how the Microsoft Media Extender software is on every 360...

I'm losing you here. A Sage client is only going to work with a Sage server. The Microsoft Media Extender on the 360 ONLY works with a Windows MCE computer. (Doesn't work with a Windows XP PC.) What you're asking for is a Upnp (Universal plug and play) client for the Xbox. Sage isn't going to write that either.

If that is the case then we will never get one, so this discussion is over.

Basically the deal is anyone can write apps for the 360 and Microsoft has stated so, but it has to be certifeid or whatever from them.. So Sage can be written for the 360 and work with a Sage server. The problem is this, does Sage want to spend the funds for an 360 SDK? Do they want to take the time to write the code for the 360? It could run directly off of the HD, and it even could function with Xbox Live!. So it is just the matter of Sage wanting to do it.

I can tell you that for me, Sage is just a hobby to me because of the 360 connecting to MCE and also firewire recording is a breeze with MCE. For firewire you just install a simlpe application and firewire just works.

I do want Sage over MCE (especially Linux) and if there was at least plans for the 360 I would run Sage as my main media software but until then MCE has to be used. If there was a 360 client I would be buying 3 or 4 more Sage licenses, Linux and for each TV. From me thats some revenue for Sage and I am sure I am not the only one who would also.
